Also very true. I at first had his litter box and “home” in the family room by a $250 pre-lit Xmas tree. He chewed every lighting wire in about 5-7” pieces off the bottom section within a week or so.

The wife found a pile of bunnies as she was weeding out around a back corner of our yard. Not too sure if the mom is coming around or not. Don't know what to do to verify if she is. Anybody know about this stuff? We've been keeping an eye on them for a couple days now... Seem healthy. Their eyes are still closed fwiw

Pretty safe bet she is taking care of them. Baby animals will usually show obvious signs of going downhill if they are truly orphaned (and cry in distress just like a human baby would). Steer clear of the temptation to "rescue" the little guys because you don't see her. Baby rabbits are notoriously difficult to raise by hand and most die.
We wanna play with them but we aren't lol. So fucking cute. We put long skinny grass strands over it so we can see if the mum comes back

Maybe a cheap game cam? It would give the family some cheap quarantine entertainment. The only downside would be if you caught the neighborhood stray cats getting into the nest. As the man of the house, it's your duty to preview the pics before showing the family.

From what I've seen/heard, baby rabbits will basically die within a day if not being attended to. And I don't say that to make you panic, but rather a reassurance that they are probably indeed being taken care of by mum. It may be difficult to catch her on camera if the nest is by the fence...she may be slipping under/thru the fence to get to the nest and not walking out in the open. Remember, she's trying to stay concealed from all the neighborhood cats and dogs.
If it turns out they are orphaned, get them to a wildlife rehabber asap. Your local animal shelter or game warden should be able to assist there. If at all possible, have the game warden do the collecting--this keeps you from breaking any laws as far as harassing/molesting wildlife and/or nests. Most of them wouldn't say anything one way or the other about something like rabbits, but once in awhile you'll get a Dudley Doright that is eager to write a ticket (or a rehabber who reports you to the actual authorities).

Yup, the moms only come back at night. They are out during the day doing their mom thing. I deal with this constantly with my customers yards. I always mow around them but unfortunately over the years I've seen guys not notice the nests and well...
Also, if I recall, the moms abandon ship after 6 weeks or so...I'm sure I'm wrong on this. But I had a lady a few years ago explain to me the whole process when this happened in her back yard

Bunny check: all seems to be well. Their eyes are open and something is definitely accessing the hole, gotta be the mum. They aren't afraid of me when I look at them, hopefully that will carry over into adulthood! That would be amazing if they would chill out with us haha

So on Sunday afternoon we discovered one dead bunny, one of the fat ones. Mid day today we discovered that the other fat one was dead and the little guy passed away shortly after. They went downhill so fast. I'd love to know what happened. My wife buried them together in a back corner of the yard.

I read that can happen. I know we didn't scare them to death (at least I don't believe so) so I'm going to hold onto the thought that they had some love before they went to the great beyond.

Dang...sorry to hear that. I saw the update and was hoping for new pics. Going back to what I said before, they go quickly--usually within a day. As fragile as they are it is amazing they survive to adulthood...but that's why they breed so fast. If you haven't seen the mother, I would say dehydration. But in that case, all would be gone. If some have survived, I would say snake. Especially if just one is missing. Snakes have a hard time picking a single target in a nest and will usually strike several before picking one to eat. If it were a cat or larger predator, you'd probably see a lot of damage--rabbit skin tears incredibly easy and there would probably be missing fur as well.
Sorry man. Mother nature is a cruel bitch. Hope you and the family have a better day.
We'll survive lol. The big issue was telling my neice about it. We said the moved away to their adult rabbit home.
