Slipped into the gym yesterday morning to do some light deads. Not something my trainer wants me to do, but he takes Sundays off... My shoulder was fine, and so was my lower back, but in just the few weeks I've been off my grip strength has really fallen off. I was literally struggling to hang on to the bar for reps at 315. There was some numbness too, so I started thinking the GH dose might be a little high. Going to drop it for a week or two to see if things improve.
I might be given the green light to start squatting again this week. He wants me to switch to the Smith machine for a few months to reduce rotator cuff stress, but I doubt I will wait that long. The Smith machine tends to make my knees hurt over time. I can see doing it for a couple of weeks, though. He says he can fix the knee issue AND give me the same gains as squatting, so I'll give it a chance. At 51 a safer way to get the same results is tempting, it's just my BS alarm has been going off since he said that.
@lightspan thanks for the encouragement. I'm starting to think one of the best uses of a trainer is to have someone that keeps me from re-injuring myself by doing too much of the wrong thing. He does know how to work the shoulder hard without making it worse.
