rehab cycle: test, deca, albuterol, gh

Slipped into the gym yesterday morning to do some light deads. Not something my trainer wants me to do, but he takes Sundays off... My shoulder was fine, and so was my lower back, but in just the few weeks I've been off my grip strength has really fallen off. I was literally struggling to hang on to the bar for reps at 315. There was some numbness too, so I started thinking the GH dose might be a little high. Going to drop it for a week or two to see if things improve.

I might be given the green light to start squatting again this week. He wants me to switch to the Smith machine for a few months to reduce rotator cuff stress, but I doubt I will wait that long. The Smith machine tends to make my knees hurt over time. I can see doing it for a couple of weeks, though. He says he can fix the knee issue AND give me the same gains as squatting, so I'll give it a chance. At 51 a safer way to get the same results is tempting, it's just my BS alarm has been going off since he said that.

@lightspan thanks for the encouragement. I'm starting to think one of the best uses of a trainer is to have someone that keeps me from re-injuring myself by doing too much of the wrong thing. He does know how to work the shoulder hard without making it worse.

Haven't done ANY chest work since I started with the trainer. Last night after my shoulder rehab stuff I tried some inclined DB presses, hands rotated at 45 deg. I stayed under 40 lbs with reps above 20. I never actually got a chest pump, but my triceps got pretty tired. There was only slight shoulder pain, less than with some of the rehab exercises.

I may not get a chance to squat this week after all. I did something to my knee yesterday doing knees-together leg extensions, then stupidly did an hour of mountain biking at lunch. It's looking pretty puffy this morning, and ice isn't doing much to change that. This is a chronic knee issue that happens when I work quads and let my form slip. It also happens when I ride too much, so I sort of feel I deserve this, heh. It usually clears up in a week or two.

Did you use a palms up/palms down hand placement on the deadlifts Flenser ? I usually use equal placement until my grip goes out , then I switch to alternative grip , much stronger grip on deads . If your still rehabbing it , dont go too heavy ~Ogh

What happened with the concert she wanted to go to?
We got a chaperone crazy enough to take 4 teenage girls. I would have done it, but fortunately she would have stayed home if I were going. I think it happens this week.

I learned with the mixed grip. Not sure I've ever even tried it with both palms down. I do that with rows, but I need straps for anything over 225. I never really had a problem with grip strength on deads until now. It has to be the GH..

Went to the gym today, mostly because my trainer doesn't work Sundays and I decided I had to start squatting again. I knew I couldn't go heavy, so I super set squats and trap bar deads. Today was the third time this has happened to me: my knee pain was all but gone after I finished squatting, and 3 hours later it still feels fine. I don't understand it, but I'm just going to tuck it into my bro-science belt and live with it: squatting fixes knees. Did the usual leg accessories on the machines afterward, though I stayed pretty light especially with quad work.

Since I was already going against trainer orders, I decided to try some light chest work. Flat DB press 5X30 with 35lb DBs, inclined Smith Machine pause sets 2" above my chest also 5X30, and some random cable flies. Doesn't feel like I hurt anything, and I did the usual shoulder rehab stuff before I started squats. My trainer will probably be pissed at me, but I had to know..

Take it easy Flenser - dont get gitty and try to lift heavier weights . Try to restrain , its hard to do but sometimes you got to de-load to go forward .

And yes squatting fixes knees (and sciatic quad damage) it fixed mine , my doctor was amazed after I had severe sciatica from a deadlift accident but used light squats to rehab . It worked . ~Ogh

I thought I was being pretty cautious staying with the 35's. I did get careless with my grip at one point nearly launched one across the gym.

Flenser and Lightspan this might help you guys...Flenser if do decide to try this let me say this...I'd wait til my physical therapy is complete before I'd even think of trying this. If you use it don't go past point of pain and go slow with it please. I don't want you to get any further injury. This has helped alot of people...from Dante:

HOW TO CURE SHOULDER PROBLEMS (Trust me this will do it 90% of the time)
With a large towel or broomstick I want you to hold it with straight arms for the entire time of what i describe in the following movement--a large "rolled up like a rope" beach towel works good but honestly a longer broomstick (without the bristles) works best in my opinion. Start out with it with a really wide grip (with straight arms) in front of you (on your quads) and with straight arms bring it up and overhead and then down and back to the middle of your back--STRAIGHT ARMS ALL THE WAY--this is going to be very difficult and hard the first couple times out and then will be "old hat" with time----and its going to be painful in a stretching pump kind of way---i want 50 reps each time you do this--one repetition is from in front of your face (all with straight arms) to up overhead and back, and then down all the way to the middle of your back and then back up overhead to in front of your face again (again all with straight arms)--the important part of the movement is the area overhead that is really tight--do all of this carefully/slowly---dont just whip it over and back---if your hand is slipping off the broomstick even with the widest grip, or you cant bring your arms over straight and the start bending on you, you have some serious shoulder inflexibility and need to work this hard and get up to speed (or you could just need a longer broomstick too)--again do all of these revolutions controlled and carefully--push into the stretch as you go along toward the 50 revolutions, your chest will be pushing outward and your shoulders rolling back--your shoulders are going to blow up with so much blood its going to be incredibly painfull pumpwise--Do this once a day at nite as many times a week as you can---sometimes I have people do it every single day---but every time you do it try to move your grip inward (thats the key)----its going to be very hard to do but try your best to move your grip inward for the next 2-4 weeks and your range of motion with shoulders will increase dramatically and any impingement and the majority of other problems should be gone in 2 weeks--also try to move your grip in as you are doing the 50 revolutions--start off with a stretching but relatively easy 10 to warm up some, then try to move your grip in even by a centimeter if you can for the next 20 revolutions and then at 30 try to move the grip in another centimeter--really try to push what you can do stretchwise once your warmed up here--trust me this sounds easy but your going to be muttering "fuck you dante" after you get to your 25th revolution--Ive cured too many shoulder problems with this simple movement now its pretty ridiculous, and this and a menthol rub applied liberally daily and before sleep has cured alot of shoulder/bicepital tendonitis in trainees ---Heres a pic attached to this post so you can get an idea (thanks to a trainee of mine who cured his shoulders with this)--but remember the broomstick goes overhead and all the way back to the middle of the back (he just drew the start of the movement when you begin)

are you still on 2iu p/day of GH?
I had gone up to 6iu for a while, but had some carpel tunnel and grip strength issues. I stopped last week, but will probably start again in a few weeks once my grip returns to normal.

I was actually doing this before I was injured, but using PVC rather than a towel. I've done it a few times since, and my ROM isn't quite as good as it used to be, but it's not too bad.

Great! I've shown people this and this one guy....the amazing part about it was he was able to touch his hands together behind him after he did these for awhile lol. Like I said...may wanna consider doing these after your therapy is complete. Like reading your log!
Good Luck
