Religion, science, or both... Where do you stand?

That’s confirmation bias and anecdote at best in that video. Of course it’s going to speak truth to you it’s confirming what you believe. I’m quite the opposite I was a Christian but actually setting aside my own beliefs and cognitive dissonance and truly scrutinizing what I felt in my heart of hearts to be true led me in a much different direction. There is no more proof for your religion or your Jesus than there was for the ancient Greeks or the Vikings.

I believe ur still dealing with cognitive dissonance and something isnt aligning because if u need proof of greeks, vikings and things like that? Ur still not out of the dark.....

The same historians (Tacitus and Josephus) who wrote about Jesus, also wrote about history that everyone accepts as fact. You can’t accept one history recording and ignore another when they both come from valid historians.

Jesus Christ. I’m referring to their mythology, their religion. You lack reading comprehension as well. There’s as much proof of Jesus as there is Thor or Hercules

Tacitus - RationalWiki
are you referring to this? Do you people question nothing that confirms your beliefs? Those are the things should scrutinize the most. If it doesn’t hold up under scrutiny you throw it out and change your opinions and beliefs

Actually the Bible never calls it a whale because God isn’t dumb enough to think a human or a boat could make it past the throat of a whale, which is why the Bible actually says “a giant fish.” And giant fish are known to exist, big enough to swallow humans whole.

I believe the “eye of the needle” example has been checked into and determined to be false actually but it’s a saying nonetheless which is true - it’s easier for a donkey to fit through an eye of a needle than it is for a rich person to enter heaven.
Blend the donkey and use a 16 gauge....done

Not going to lie, every person in here sounds delusional. I will add myself to this list.

Just except (maybe its accept)the fact NOBODY knows.

Maxx, I am an aitheist and I started this thread. I am willing to change my mind, I will become the hardest religious person out there if convinced. I just have not gathered enough certainty to form a religious belief yet. It's that simple.

We'll goddamn at least there's someone on this forum that doesn't have his head in his ass.

Atheist by default suggest skepticism, questioning, that's always a good thing.

How did it all start?

Do we have the technology to go that far back, what is beginning, this could be an endless loop that replays over and over......we could be on our trillionth cycle for all we know. Energy, decay, blackhole, repeat....ect.

One thing is for certain, it sure as hell ain't Jesus, that guy if he even existed didn't know anything, he was perhaps the most clueless man that ever walked the earth, couldn't even keep himself from getting nailed to a board. And Yahweh was a total asshole(typical of Middle Eastern gods). Middle East(the most disgusting backwards people on earth) is probably the last place you'd want to look for a cosmology from religion, the Hindus were much closer to what we see with science.

Really it's kind of sad, we have large volumes of astrophysics textbooks, we have knowledge, we will have more knowledge once the webb infrared telescope is placed a million miles from earth, many more times powerful than the Hubble which blew the lid off the fact that we hurl through space along with billions of galaxies.

Just those Hubble images alone should tell you to take that holy bible and marinate it in urine before you toss it in the trash. No words on the page from a cult of babbling Christ followers could ever compare to the images of Hubble and a whole lot of math.

Back for yet another incarnation? Did you disappear or were you just quiet these last couple months?

Pop in every once awhile and see how the sources are doing, looking for any uptick in customs seizures of international packs or loss of product quality.

If I see too many posts leaning to the right I create a new handle and roll up my sleeves and get down to the business of balancing viewpoints.

The more i see science advance only strengths my belief in God

Look at all the places that have been found in the bible..... Archaeology has proven the bible to be accurate and correct many different times.....

Thats whats so scary..... The more u read it, and the more thats is proved as factual, the more it becomes evident that revelations will occur at one point or another....

Too many people take the word of god as literal.... figurative or metaphorically it should be taken....

Joahna and the belly of the whale for instance..... Ur crazzy to believe he actually lived in the belly of an actual whale... Its figuritive, or metaphorically inaccurate, the WORLD. Represents the whale that has been spoken of, he chose to run from God, got swallowed by the whale = (the world) and the world used him, hid him and spit him out....

The eye of a needle....not the eye of the needle,,, . U can fit a donkey thru the eye of a needle.... Figurative or metaphorically, the eye of the needle they were speaking of was actual columns shaped like the eye of a needle that were a gate to Jerusalem.....

It's called confirmation bias. Just because some middle eastern sci-fi writings(bible) used some actual landmarks and events, doesn't mean the whole story(the supernatural parts) are real.

I could go out and tell everyone my neighbor's lambo levitates and flies off into the sky, and just because he has a lambo doesn't mean the rest of the story is true.

How many brain cells have been killed off by mindless Christians digging around in the mud, playing paddy-cake in the desert sand trying to find some pottery shards, or some proto-hebrew writings pointing to Yahweh or Jesus. It's sad that people spend so much time on a civilization that was created by these ancient Jews that by all measures were extremely primitive compared to their Egyptian neighbors that were far more advanced, thousands of years earlier.

The early Jewish civilization would be what I would call a trailer park where a bunch of rocks were piled up to make cheap flats, the Romans were impressive, they left behind writings of science, architecture, math, philosophy, they were so far ahead of these idiots scared of pig entrails.

Face it folks, most of us are white European stock, you've been wasting your time worshiping ancient Jews, think about what a con job that is. At least go back and look at your Roman brothers, they were geniuses compared to the trailer park trash found in the bible.

We should end this by stating.

Christians based their faith ultimately on the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is immaterial, but at the same time 1 in 3 of the trinity, so it is God to the Christian.

Can we detect the Holy Spirit....nope, it is completely immaterial, so there is absolutely no empirical way to test.

It's classic substance dualism:
A world made of material stuff, atoms, quarks, gluons, nuclear forces
&
Consciousness, Mind.....completely independent of any physical or material laws. This is where you encounter the holy spirit with a laundry list of vague and not so vague experiences that are impossible to prove or reproduce for anyone else....personal experience.

So does that experience have a cause(God, Jesus, Holy Spirit), human senses are very easy to fool, defined with synthetic propositions which means nothing can be known with absolute certainty because there can always exist and infinite possible explanations for sense data.

All of this would be handled with "External World Skepticism" in other words no matter the experience, no matter how intense we should never be so lazy and dumb to assume a supernatural experience.

Many humans experience:
Intrusions, Euphoria, Guilt, Intuitions, Voices. These are in fact normal experiences shared by most of the human race, these things are you, they are how you evolved, it's how all of us made it this far in evolution, they serve a purpose to keep us alive. You soak up your surroundings on a subconscious level and you react, but these things don't need an external cause, we do this because we lack the luxury in all situations to sit around and reason, such as when a bear jumps out of the bushes causing us to act based on pure intuition.

These experiences have formed thousands of religions throughout human history.

The western Christian faith is an institution of smugness, where they claim sole ownership of these experiences and insist that only their religion is the one true reason for any of these experiences. They hold that these senses, that most humans have, unambiguously reveals Gods presence to everyone and who's God?,,,,,well it's the Christian God of the holy bible of course.

If you claim you lack this universal experience of the Christian God to the western religiously devoted, you are considered a lair by default or to have a malfunction in their ability to sense the divine.

Those that fail to convert to the Christian faith are either spiritually blind or outright sinful.

"We're right, your wrong" If you disagree you're ignorant and evil.....the very foundation of Christian Apology 101 in a nutshell.

Case Closed, there is no way to end this argument with a Christian and probably why you shouldn't even bother.

It should be mentioned and warned that this sort of thinking can lead to violent fanaticism and has throughout history, so it shouldn't be taken lightly. Reason is tossed out the window and instead replaced with a blunt sledge hammer of authority to bash us non-believers over the head.

One of the things people fail to realize is that you can if you want create a religion on your own.

You could sit down and write your own scriptures. You could use sci-fi, pulp fiction, horror, mystery, fantasy....as jumping off points.

Just think how much this would piss off those following monotheistic religions, that should be all the inspiration you need. Imagine millions of people trolling, but at the same time spending serious time learning apologetic to defend your new religion.

Why shouldn't Americans come up with their own unique religion based on how we live our lives, instead of how they live in other countries. Atheism isn't for everyone, some people like to play make believe, so give them something to have fun with.

Well i can agree on A LOT of this, BUT it is TRUE for all "religions"

Except, if you dont believe in Jesus, or "convert" we wont kill you....

So with that being said ill tell you the same thing ive always told the wife, choose your poison.....

Either your free to believe in a specific "god" (trinity) and you can live, albeit until the day you are judged

Or BELIEVE in this other "god" or die.....

Pick ur poison.....

True Christians aren't doing what they did in the past, converting heretics by flame, sword, torture, or noose. They have instead turned to a more subtle form of mental torture.

The ability to speak freely in all situations, to defend the atheists position, to even be an atheist in all walks of life(we are still considered dangerous in the world of politics at least in the United States). Christians are fully protected and coddled when shoving jesus's cock down our throats whenever a captive audience is forced to bite their tongue, drop their pants and let these assholes slide between our cheeks. Listening to a Christian drivel on and on is no different than having my mind raped and sodomized a bukakke if you will.

Militant Atheism, though annoying(infuriating to the point of boiling rage) to most people in this fine country, is one of the last battle grounds for free speech. Politicians have endless opportunities to inject God into every hearing, debate and bill, these fuckers always love bringing up a God that gives us our rights, a Dominionist Christian God that we should all submit.

Imagine an atheist telling Ted Cruz openly and forcefully to fuck off when he looks for every opportunity to inject god into every single hearing in the senate he's apart of. When that day is here and we are allowed to speak freely we will come out from the shadows and explain our position, we will tear down and mock every God/gods, we just need that chance to get our foot in the door and then we will rip everyone a new asshole.

My vision for America would be putting atheists and satanists in control of most of our political apparatuses. Critical, freethinking, skeptics, rationalists, that look for every opportunity to break and destroy taboos, rules, laws, dogma. I can promise you that America would be turned into a giant Las Vegas cesspool, everywhere you step would be the sound of dried cum chips crackling.

Oh you'll get ur chance to accomplish your vision, read revelations, it is to come, every dog will have its day.....Another rome, another tower of babel, babylon The great..... Etc..... Its not too far away so everone get their sins ready!!! :) Frolic in the lawless, sexually perverse, charloton filled self desires, because once it is over....hades and everything in it will be cast to the pit....

But who's to say we arent living during the thousand year reign already when satan is let loose to tempt all mankind once more???

Its funny on how a forum people get the chance to voice their opinions and act as tho they are so down trodden and held back, no one is holding u back from all your hate and anger, obviously u feel as tho u cant publicly scream and stomp around because someone says GOD and u hate it, well u have a right to hate what u dont understand, love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, hell even saul killed christians.... But out of anger because he wasnt hand picked by god..... Then he was shown who God really was and his little temper tantrum was no more..... But hey man hate all u want, ball it up inside, and explode it all over the world, God knows thats what all atheists want to do anyways, explode and keep getting angrier because they want so badly to try and explain away everything that has been found and proven to be correct in a book that tells them they are created, and that they are not created for their own understanding and own ambitions, let alone their own greed or selfish desires......

I dont know many athiest people, some agnostics, and even some who have come to research and realize that whats the harm in believing? U have a 50/,50 chance that he is real.... Does it make u so mad that perhaps everything uve grown to hate, just..... Might..... Be..... True???
