Reporting trolls

Ok, to be honest, I had just reported something and, shortly after, this thread pops up on the "What's New" list.

A shiver went down my spine, I thought I was in trouble, lol.
The relief when I read this, all I could muster was a star to say "excellent, thanks", lol.
But I really thought it was about me doing it wrong, or it being unwelcome.

This is a brilliant clarification.
Very much needed.
Thank you.

You were just the tiny straw that broke the camels back

@Millard why not make the introduction post mandatory in order to gain access to post anywhere else? It will force trolls out by alot (they are not going to go through the trouble) and make legit New Members more "trustworthy" if they have some question later.
While I think that is an excellent idea, the challenge becomes restricting that "free market" spirit to let MESO police themselves ..almost like discovering the trolls is part of the journey in education (I get it's definitely a complete time waster for you and the other vets).

But what happens to the potential "redemption story" troll that ends up learning from the error of their ways after getting bitch-slapped by MESO members here? What is to stop the inevitable stupid 'Hi....the end" new member introduction? (I realize you're saying that's kinda the point...that it will.weed them out as trolls from the start).

Im not sure exactly what the perfect solution is to the perceived rot that may be (temporarily? Cyclically?) pervading the boards. I do know the more ACTIVE restrictions to posting, the more this becomes a source board rather than harm reduction

Admittedly, the current system of post number and "likes" seems to lead to some trolls just getting their post count etc. up to gain privileges.

I do recall getting a very clear email about forum etiquette when I arrived here and to be honest, it may have even said something to the effect of "make a new member introduction" to gain access to certain boards or something like that. I felt like it was "mandatory" from a basic social perspective...that was my first post, even though I hated because I go through life pretty much assuming my life story/goals qualify as "the least interesting man in the world" (despite my flurry of posting and smart ass comments in general here...lol).

Edit: I do half way apologize to you for answering and NOT being Millard...I realize you asked a very specific question to the owner and I'm not really trying to interfere with your line of communication....just dialogue is all.

That is the whole beauty of MESO, isn't it? Free choice.

New members are free to ignore that big sign they are presented with when they joined up. But that action then tells others useful information.

You didn't miss / ignore the sign and felt obligated to act. No surprise.

+1

This is a great idea and might not be so hard to implement. Doing something like this might cut down on spammers as well. Times have changed as a rising tide of trolls/spammers/idiots are making things rougher on forums so some proactive changes needed.
