Ruckin's dbol/test/eq log

Workout number two post-illness went pretty well today. It's tough mentally to deal with the strength loss, especially on my squat, but I just have to keep reminding myself it'll be back to normal in a few days.

Power clean: 225x1x10
Press: 165x8,8,11
Squat (paused atg): 335x6x4
Paused Incline press: 205x10,10,9
Chin ups: 256x5,5,8
Db Shrugs: 85sx15x3 (~1 min rest)
GHRs: bwx6,6,8
Db curls: 45sx12,5 (rp set)

On the bring side, I was happy to get 8 chin ups, and I know I could have ground out a ninth, which would match my personal best, but when I did that last it was almost 50 pounds ago.

I'm going out for "gourmet pizza" (lol) with my girl later so I'll see if I can sneak a picture of that.

Do you rep out the last sets of an exercise? I really like that approach. I find I can't be honest with RPE or just don't judge it well yet and that way if I get a few extra on the last set I'll know I was in the 7-8 range.

You ever work in weighted chin ups? I find they help tremendously with my bodyweight chin ups.

Yeah I usually go for AMRAP on the last set for each exercise (except cleans obviously), while still keeping good form and avoiding slow grinders. Seems to work well and helps me gauge what I should do for that lift next time.

I've done weighted chins very briefly here and there when I've been light enough to warrant adding extra weight, but that doesn't end up being the case very often. Once I'm able to do 10-12+ bw chins I'll start doing some weighted ones.

I was reading somewhere that someone made some type of formula for the AMRAP and weight increases. I just kind of wing it though, 2-3 reps is +5, 4-5 is +10 type of thing. Not exactly that, but you know what I mean if you do it, too.

Yeah, some recommend being able to do like 15 before adding weight, but I don't think they were accounting for guys my size or your size. I think I started adding weight this time when I could do 5x10. I started doing 5x7 with like 25lbs. No real reason on the sets of 7, just sounded right.

Same, I just kinda go with my gut on the weight increases. Whatever I feel like I'll be able to do.

Once (if I ever can lol) I can do 3x10 with my bw I'll probably do as you did and add a 25 and just see what I can do with that.

How was that gourmet pizza the other day? I had one last night, grilled chicken, caramelized onions and artichoke hearts on flatbread with mozzarella and Alfredo sauce.

Cant believe i only now found this log, read it all last night and now im along for the ride.

Yum that sounds great. The ones I had were pretty good, easpecially this cheesesteak pizza they had. I'd definitely go back for a whole pie of that.

I love pizza so much lol

Power clean: 205x1x8
Press: 170x8,8,10
Squat (paused atg): 340x6x4
Bench: 260x10,10,11
Deadlift: 495x3
Chins: 259x5,5,8

Really solid workout. I was pretty surprised with my press, I wasn't expecting to get 10 on my last set. Same with my bench, I guess it's just my strength coming back quickly that I lost being sick.

Random thoughts for today...

I just realized I've been on this blast for over 6 weeks now o_O sure doesn't feel like it. Man, being sick really fucked me.

Also I've been getting pretty frustrated lately with myself for neglecting my traps for the first few years of lifting. They're easily my worst muscle. I've been doing a decent job of getting them caught up over the last year or so, but it's never good enough lol.

Just ranting. Don't mind me.

Keep working on that deadlift and your traps will reflect that. Look at guys like Pete Rubish, freakish traps. A high rep heavy set of deads makes my traps more sore than anything else I've ever done for them.

Press: 175x8x3
Squat (paused atg): 345x6x4
Paused Incline press: 205x10x3
Deadlift: 405x5x4
Db curls: 45sx14,3,2 (rp set)
Face pulls: 130x19,6,4 (rp set)

Solid workout. Finally got my press back to what I did the last workout before I got sick. That's also a volume PR on deads. Not sure if I want to add another set of deads next week to do 405x5x5 or add weight and keep the volume the same. 5x5 on deads is intimidating to think about lol.

I agree 5x5 is too much for now. I'd try to make gains on as low of volume as possible for as long as possible. Think about adding volume later down the road. Mirin' press, by the way.

Sounds good, thanks for the recommendation. I'll stick to 4x5 for a while then. And thank you for the compliment! My press is definitely my best lift, which is odd because my delts aren't very impressive looking.
