Could be a stupid question, but came to me today while I was doing legs.

I used to do slower reps, like Dorian, but recently I've switched to Kai Green type speed, using less weight, but at a faster tempo, and holy shit the pumps. I never get this pumped with any other rep tempo.

I also feel it in parts of my muscles I didn't have "access" to, like the very top of my legs are getting rekt by leg extensions, when I never felt them before doing the heavy weight, slower tempo.

And again, the PUMPS are nuts.

I'm not going super high reps either, max I went was 15 or so. But this just feels better and safer.

Just to clarify: I do get pumped the other way, but not like I do going faster?

Why is this?

Slow controlled eccentric and a strong controlled concentric focusing on putting the highest amount of tension on the target muscle will be optimal for growth

Rep range is not necessarily critical, it's about hitting or coming very close to true muscular failure. Keep the reps somewhere between 6-20 typically

^basically this. If you feel your pump reps have any benefit for you, id use it as a finisher after some quility tension work like what evom1 mentioned above. The pump isnt everything, tension kinda is.

Well yes, I know for growth all that matters is the tension; but right now I'm cutting, and I won't be growing at all, so figured to change things up and notice how much of a sick pump I got going faster reps. Just wondering why.

And its weird because the lactic acid comes faster, like before failure in this way.

Is the greater pump just because the rep speed/tempo is new to you?

When I change the rep range and/or speed of concentric and eccentric the first few workouts the pumps are immense and almost painful. But after a week or so become less so until I change it up again.

Fast reps with low weight really does burn.

What does the “sick pump” do for you?

It doesn’t grow muscle and it goes away quickly.

Could be because it's new.

Don't change up you're training when you cut, that's likely to lead to muscle loss
True.

I was just wondering what the cause was. Perhaps someone on slin would benefit doing pump sets at the end of their workout to get more nutrients in or whatever.

I'm not on that so
