Some advice

Gents,

Real quick I'm 5'7 170, great shape, good diet. I'm not new to lifting, but new to really being serious about it. I'm in the Air Force, so I mostly lift to augment my pullups, pushups, situps and running. I've been do mostly crossfit type stuff with lots of Kettlebell work. I'm looking to put some muscle on though. My goal is to put about 10 punds on while still being able to run and do all the pushups and pullups needed for our PFT. I currently take muscle milk 1 hour prior to work out, BSN Cellmass immediatley after workout and (BSN Syntha-6) mixed with Carb-pro 30 minutes after work out. I take about 1000mg of glucosamine, 1000mg of Triple Omega 3-6-9, 2 Anti-Oxidant tabs and a mens one a day multi vitamin daily.

I'm thinking about starting the 5x5 program for about 4-weeks. My only concern is the lack of pushups. Does anyone have any advice our different things I can do? I have limited access to computers, so I aplologize if there is a thread about this. I just don't have much time to search on the internet. Thanks in advance men!

Are you out of boot camp yet ? Is the Air Force putting you through manditory work outs?Reason for the questions is we will have to know what your routine is now before we can form opinion on doing 5x5 program. In other words if the military is already exercising you daily and you also do 5x5 you could be overtraining some muscle groups.I would take the muscle milk 2-3 times per day and shoot for over 4000 calories each day. If you are doing no training now through the AF then the 5x5 would be an excellent choice as long as your joints/ligaments are up to it.Be safe out there Bro and thanks for protecting us ! dennis

Just do the animal mass if you are looking for pure bulk. You'll need to up your protein to match your target weight like so... goal 185lbs = 185g of protein at minimum. complex carbs will help up your strength and endurance too. I like a muscle milk and a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. that gets me going good. As an officer you should be allowed around 2hrs each day for your workout so, hit it mid day instead of early morning as your strength will be better.

And no your pushups won't go down.... that's silly  You'll get so strong that they'll have you working on the airfield taxi ing planes by hand!

Do the animal mass three times a week and then pullups and pushups the other three times a week, rest on sunday and hit it again. Keep the pull up pushup day light - 50each - and you'll grow fine.

If you want to do the 5X5, then do pushups in the mornings or on T, Tr, Sat and Sun. Never hurt me any.
