Someone HELP MY BUDDY OUT

Right. Stick-to-itiveness is up to the individual, I guess. There's an awful lot of people who would like to lose weight, gain muscle, gain strength, etc., however, there aren't enough who WANT to do it. If there is the will to achieve, then the results will follow.

I've had many training partners over the years. The only person who has stuck with it is me.

Brother, it comes down to people being lazy, stupid wusses.

I know it. Spring break should be about 5 weeks from now. In three weeks, there will be a sudden influx of people trying to "tone up" and drop 20lbs of fat while gainig 20lbs of muscle in those two remaining weeks. If they would just continue doing that for the next 52 weeks, they might actually look good for next year's break.

Phreezer,

Great words. In a way, I am also a Newbie even though I'm 35 years old and have lifted off and on for several years. I say that because I taught myself how to weight train and still don't know a lot about weight lifting. If I had a professional trainer or a network of friends who lift, I'm sure that I would be much further along than I am now.

Someone else had a good quote about Newbies not getting involved with dead lifts. I've never done deadlifts because I don't know what the proper technique is. I've stuck with my simple routine for several years of 3 sets 10 reps (3rd set until failure) and never tried a more professional program because there were too many terms that I didn't understand.

I guess all newbies who feel committed to lifting should find a reputable gym and work with a personal trainer instead of using a cheap university gym with no trainers (like I did for too many years).

Fuuuucccckkkk NO! Personal trainers, for the most part, are complete idiots who wouldn't know how to grow turnips, let alone muscle.

If you're haveing a problem with certain terms and whatnot, do a an internet search. There are plenty of sites with pictures, videos and descriptions of various exercises.

Grizzly, When you were a relative newbie, how did you learn to use proper techniques and how to get the best results?

I have seen several descriptions of various exercises, but it was still hard to know exactly what many of the terms meant. Anyone know a good dictionary or video that defines terms such as "deadbolt lift" (as an example)?

www.abcbodybuilding has pics of many lifts etc. check that out. click on exercises and than you will get a slide show of different ones. I had to teach myself b/c there weren't any gyms where i grew up(the boonies) and there wasnt internet.

You can learn about training regardless of who you are or what your ability level is.

When I was 18 years old, I was already talking to one of the best strength coaches in the country via email. Most good coaches will talk to anyone for free, and take time off their VERY busy schedules to help someone who has the courage to go actively looking for help. By calling them up and telling them something about yourself, they will realize that you are indeed serious and committed, and will listen to what they have to say. They know they won't be wasting their time, and they WILL help you. I guarentee it.

Louie Simmons, Bill Crawford, JS, Mel Siff (RIP), Ernie Frantz, etc have always given freely of themselves in the past, even though they are already working one-to-one with many, many athletes.

Call or email and TALK to them. I will guarentee you, with a round of drinks on my tab should I be wrong, that they WILL help you.

All you need are balls and enough arm muscle development to pick up a phone.
