Spinal epidural

Long story short I have a ruptured disc L-5/S-1 and have been fighting it for the past three years. It prevents me from being on my feet for more then 10-15 minutes at a time before pain sets in and I start limping around like I just did 2 cc's of Denkyl t-400 in one quad.I can not do any serious cardio and my legs are starting to suffer atrophy from lack of any hard legg work .

I have been getting treatment from a Chiro for the past 6 months but it just isnt getting better he suggested the Epidural and possibly surgery as my next options.I will be getting the Epi done on 12-17 (WED)and then have an appointment with a neurosurgeon in the middle of Jan.Has anyone here gone through this? How long before you where back in the gym?
Any help would be much appreciated

My father in law (weird to say since I got married 2 weeks ago) got one about a month ago. He was popping 4 - 6 Oxy's a day and now has no pain. Went from limping around to being able to take his air conditioners out and put them away and he is in his late 50's. My wife is an ortho nurse and has been pushing him to get it for months and he has no regrets.
He was up and about by the end of the week and got the shot on a Monday.

First off I have been in this situation before is it ruptured or bulging big difference
If bulging then surgery not needed epidural will work as for ruptured discs they do not heal they are broken and leaking fluid down your spine, most people that have back surgery are no better after, that situation sucks bro my heart goes out to you.
PAIN killers will help maybe epidural will ease some of the symptoms but will not heal it.
Mine were bulging HGH did the trick might help with yours if its not to bad.

I agree 100%
Have had 3 epidurals in the past for buldging disc.

It is bulging and is getting worse feels like.
Thanks guys I appreciate the help .
I took this week off from the gym and am planning on taking next week off as well

Getting a bit nervous as it gets closer but after spending the weekend Xmas shopping I realize how much it hinders me in all aspects of my life . I hope this provides some relief!Spoke with some guys on PRO.M and it sounds like They had very sililar injuries and both got quite a bit of help out of it so looks good.

I think if its bulging then the epidural injection should help. Good luck bro and keep us posted.

Thanks guys!
Well it was a very quick deal spent like 10 minutes with Doc.Been kind od out of it all day from sedative.Feeling good Doc said it would be about three days before I felt relief.

thanks big b
Back is feeling better today I was able to walk around for 35 minutes before it started to ache, hopefully it will be even better tomorrow

Glad to hear everything went fine. Been wondering how you made out. Thats good news bro. Sweet progress. I'll check back in here tomorrow to see how its coming. Get well bro.

Ok update back is feeling better was up getting crew going and walking the compound this mourning for about an hour before back started hurting. This is a big improvement over 10-15 minutes but I was hoping of course to be pain free lol.I will be meeting my Doc next week he did say this wasn't a full epidural because he had to gauge my reaction to it, so hopefully if I get another it will be even better.
I am heading to the gym tomorrow to hit legs back and bis and some cardio ( I know way to much but damn guys I have been off two weeks!)
I will update how I feel after that lol.

Great news! Im sure you already know this, but please take it easy in the gym bro. I'd hate to see you take one step forward and two steps back. Good luck in your recovery.

well my back is feeling decent not pain free but a marked improvement over where I started. I hit the gym yesterday and felt great. I have an appt with my dr this week and will see what he wants to do.
there is an "Iron horse" fitness opening in my town next month

lol well i am back to where it was before the epidural, guess im one of the ones it doesnt work well for. its cool though i have had some great workouts this week!

Dont want to discourage you, but the ones I had never really helped for very long either. I didnt need surgery because my ortho didnt think it was ruptured, just bulging. Over time it improved. Slowly. I'll keep you in my prayers.
