Drug charges lead to house arrest

[SIZE=-1]Mark Anthony Haig, 39, of Chance Harbour, previously pleaded guilty in provincial court to five counts of conspiracy to traffic in steroids between Sept. 19, 2006, and Jan. 25, 2007.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=-1]Haig was one of 20 people charged in connection with Operation Jellybean, a massive joint-forces drug investigation focused in Fredericton that began in 2005.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=-1]Jellybean was designed to disrupt the sale of cocaine, marijuana, prescription drugs and anabolic steroids in New Brunswick.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=-1]Crown prosecutor David Hitchcock said yesterday that Haig was a supplier of steroids to local resident Spencer Gordon Court, a central figure in the Jellybean prosecutions.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=-1]Hitchcock said wire taps recorded conversations between Haig and Court, indicating the latter was paying Haig thousands for various kinds of steroids.[/SIZE]
