I am interested in the long term hormonal changes in relation to taking steroids. I am aware that one of the primary alterations in hormone status in relation to ageing is the increased conversion of test to dht. I am curious as to whether this effect only causes mpb when dht is higher than normal, do dht levels return to normal following cesation of steroids and therefore mpb also stops, or is it permanently 'set off', if so what are the mechanisms if dht has returned to normal conversion and is not binding with scalp receptors as readily? Even if mpb is not noticed during steroids is it possible that mpb may occur at an earlier age due to this 'setting off' of dht? Finally, if men produce less test as they get older, why do they also produce more dht causing hair loss?
Also, does steroid usage have any further effects on the speed of the ageing process similar to mpb i.e. loss of skin elasticity? if so what are the mechanisms and why? is it again related to dht?
Can anyone provide me with an insight, cheers.
