Testing sterility with agar plates?

Had a thought about using agar plates to test sterility of any gear on hand.

Just draw some out, stick in the agar plates, and wait a day or two to see if anything grows. Does this make sense or anyone tried it?

I don't know if any/all bacteria in the gear would grow in the medium. Would there be some that wouldbt grow to be visible?

I think based on your other posts and this one that you may be a germaphobe or have OCD… but I’m not a doctor lol

You know that gear has Benzyl Alcohol in it right?

If you are worried about it just filter it into a sterile vial

LOL but no I've had sepsis and been in septic shock before. Nearly died. Don't plan on repeating that so I'm being very particular.

But yes BA is bacteriostatic which only inhibits growth. It does not prevent or kill bacteria.

Yeah I do plan on refiltering all gear but I was just thinking this could be an effective way of semi quickly finding out if you even need to go through all the trouble.

Yeah that’s a very good reason to be concerned for sure

It your case filtering the gear might give you the peace of mind you are looking for anyway

I thought about using agar plates as well and was wondering how effective it is. Doesn’t seem like there is too many people doing it.
