The Passion of The Christ

Just curious. Do some of you guys struggle with what you may or may not do with regards to supplements and other things involved with bodybuilding, and your spirituality? I sometimes do.

Roger Ebert, a man I have a tremendous amount of respect for, had this to say about the movie............"This is the most violent film I have ever seen."

I def would not take a kid under 18 to see that movie...u are correct..and as far as feeling bad for the lifestyle I lead...NO I dont..as long as it is my lifestyle and I do not make my choices someone elses...

I just got back from seeing the Mel Gibson film "The Passion Of The Christ." It was an amazing movie. What Jesus went through on the way to the cross cannot be explained with words.

IMO this movie was a great idea cause its the one bright spot on the news and tv that boosts religion and with all the other crap on tv like gay marriage, crack heads, Martha Stewart blah blah blah. Its realy a breath of fresh air unless you are a jew.

Tony and DP I repect what you are saying but I have to disagree. As a pastor, I would take the kids in my church to see this movie. But I would only take children 10 and up, and with there parents permissons. The reason for this is simple. I would want them to see really what Jesus went through on the way to the cross. Everytime we read the story in Matthhew, Mark, Luke and John we will see this movie. Will it traumatize them? I hope it will in a positive way. But lets me honest on how much violent material that watch already. It just so happens that this story is true!

In the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ," which won an Academy Award for best director, it showed Jesus actually having sex with Mary Magdalane before his crucifixion. No one in the media whined about that movie being un-historic. That movie didnt follow history or the Gospels AT ALL.

I dont know how anyone in the world could see the movie being Anti-Semetic considering Jesus and all of his disciples considered themselves to be Jewish. If an American citizen murders another American citizen, do we consider his actions "Anti-American?"

It kinda frips me out that the Jews believe Jesus was a prophit but not the son of God and the real Messiah is yet to come.

But on the other hand if there was a Jewish movie that was made that tried to say Christ wasnt the son of God i could see where alot of christians would be upset.

You make a very good point SteveMac. But we cannot forget the fact that it was Jews and Romans that crucified Christ. There are no two ways around it. Facts are facts!

Yes it was them that did the dirty work for us all.....what happened happened for a reason...actually all of mankind crucified him. The finger pointing is what made this movie so controversial....no need for that...he was born to die for our sins. Sad indeed...we certainly do not deserve the oppurtunity his death has given us which is eternal life thru Jesus Christ.

I agree...personally I think we OWE it to our children to allow them to watch this movie. I hav'nt seen it yet but have signed the permission slip for my son to go with the church to see it.

In my opinion the only Jews that came off "looking bad" in the movie were the High Priests who were condemning because they feared for there own loss of power. Of course it's easy to get upset with the brainwashed "masses" that also condemned him, but they only recognized Jesus as a self-proclaimed prophet and many thought his acts and miracles as the work of the devil. Pilate came across as a troubled leader, one who cared more in the end about his own fate rather than justice being served. Herod, well that whole thing kind of freaked me out. The brutality and heartlessness of the Roman soldiers was hard to stomach, and the length and intensity of the scenes where they were torturing Jesus are why I think you would need to talk long and hard with any kids before and after you take them to this movie. If your kids are mature enough to understand that his suffering was for our sins and the offering of eternal life through acceptance of Him as our Savior, than I think this could have a profound impact on there faith over time. It is so easy to say Christ was crucified, but most of us (myself included) didn't have a true understanding of the kind of suffering he indured, until this movie left us with lasting images of the event. And to ask God to forgive your tormentors as they are literally beating you to death, well let's just say it kind of puts things like our own suffering, judgement of others, and ability to forgive in perspective.

I don't know how jews can read the old testament and still not believe jesus to be the real messiah, there are hints all over. read this from psalm 22:1-31. remember, this was written hundreds of years before crucifiction was created.

1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? another thing to note is that during all crucifictions it was necessary to brake the legs of the victim so his weight would crush his longs, this never happened to jesus because he died early from the beatings he received and this was to fufill prophecy that he would not break any bones, "like a reed he will not break" and "i can count all my bones".

Jesus is the Messiah, I pray that Jews can see it and the rest of the world.

Stevemac I agree with you. If the Jews would read the Old Testament, how can they not see that Jesus is there Messiah. The question remains why do people not see Christ as the savior of the world. There are many people who say they believe in Christ, but fail to accept him as savior.

Are you more concerned with my feelings toward the church rather than whether or not I believe in Christ....pastor?

I was born and raised catholic. I have read the bible cover to cover non-stop 3 times in the past 10 years of my own accord. I have studied with the jehovahs, mormons, and christians in an attempt to understand their beliefs and I have studied the jews and mesianic jews enough to ponder why they are still stuck in the old testament. I have also studied the atrocities of man committed in the name of the church. In my opinion, religion is subject to the influence of man whereas your relationship with God is pure and unique - each individual has his own relationship with God. My faith was blind prior to studying math and physics as an undergrad. Science essentially proved the existence of God to me....well, and to Stephen Hawking, Kip Thorn, Isaac Asimov, Richard Feynman, and countless others as well. At this point in my journey, I seek enlightenment but would not consider myself a hard-line gnostic. However, I need not enter the church when I can merely lift a stone.

I am gald to see that you are on a journey. At least you have given some thought and study into religion, for that I commend you. Your right in saying that countless atrocites have been committed in the name of religion. That I guess is where I draw the line. I see what I do much more than a religion, but a relationship with Chirst. People who hide behind the mask of religion to commit these horrible atrocites, I would say are not real Christians.

A church is not a building, the church are the people inside the building. The chruch can meet wherever they want to meet. The point is they meet at a regular time. For someone to say they hate the church (Which you never said you did Hogg) is to say you hate the people, for the church is/are the people. I think that if you came to the church that I pastor you would be very suprized. I think sometimes modernism gets in the way of the truth. If we cannot prove it in the lab of science then it must be faults.
