THAN TO LAY HIS LIFE DOWN FOR HIS FRIENDS.

Your right in saying that countless atrocites have been committed in the name of religion. That I guess is where I draw the line. I see what I do much more than a religion, but a relationship with Chirst. People who hide behind the mask of religion to commit these horrible atrocites, I would say are not real Christians.
A church is not a building, the church are the people inside the building. The chruch can meet wherever they want to meet. The point is they meet at a regular time. For someone to say they hate the church (Which you never said you did Hogg) is to say you hate the people, for the church is/are the people. I think that if you came to the church that I pastor you would be very suprized. I think sometimes modernism gets in the way of the truth. If we cannot prove it in the lab of science then it must be faults.

However, out here in orange county, essentially the bible belt of the west coast, there are too many ivory palaces run by power mongers who hide behind the tax structure of the church.
I could speak at length about my feelings regarding promise keepers, calvary chapel, and the roman catholic church but I believe that the words are better left unspoken for sake of not sparking an inferno.

Hogg said:Ms. Hogg was in tears throughout the movie, she's in the living room right now flipping through her Bible and quite honestly, I am not pleased that we went to see this movie.
We recently watched 'The Gospel of John' on DVD and I felt that the movie was much better than 'Passion' as it portrayed Christ as a teacher, as a savior, and essentially the loving Father of his children.
Passion was a Hollywood-contrived fixation on the brutality enacted upon Christ and not much more. I walked away from the movie wondering what someone who had not read the bible would garner from the movie. There was no dialog during the scene where he prevented the stoning of the adultress....no one would understand why she was to be stoned nor how Christ forgave her sins and changed her life.......They briefly touched on his washing of the disciples feet yet I feel that most of Christ's message to his disciples and to his people was left out.....rather, the movie was about brutality....essentially the Jews and a number of romans beating Christ mercilessly.
The film was rather horrific. I cant say that I've watched a combat flic with as much gore nor for that matter most horror movies.
I'm waiting for some dumbass redneck to make the 6 oclock news after being arrested for transgressing against jews as a result of watching this movie.....I'd be willing to bet a dollar that this movie will be the center of much controversy in weeks to come.
oldtimer said:I have a couple of Qs for everyone, and I hope no one takes it the wrong way; Im just trying to start an intelligent conversation.
You guys say that Jesus was crucified; some say he was God, and some say he was the son of God. My 1st Q is this: if he was the son of God, why would God let his own son be killed in such a brutal way to wash away someone else's sin?, i mean, since the beginning of mankind, we know how people get punished badly by God if they mistreat one of his messengers (not saying Jesus was "just" a messenger, but he had a message to carry right?). For example, look at the story of Moses, the story of Lut, the story of David, and the list goes on...
If Jesus was indeed God, why would God sacrifice himself for his own creation?, i mean, does it make sense that you build a car and kill yourself so the car becomes better?, wouldn't it be more logical if you just scraped that mal-car and built a newer/better one?
I have my own beliefs in this matter (I believe that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus was not crucified, he's still alive up in the heavens, and that he'll come and save this earth at the end of time...)
Tell me what you think

stevemac said:see, this could be talked about all day. To say jesus was not crucified would mean that the gospel is a lie. If the gospel were built of lies then jesus is not who he says he is. And yes, jesus is the son of god, and God loved the world so much as to sacrifice his only son. This was going to happen since genesis. To compare people to broken down cars really misses the point all together, jesus conquered death. he returned from the dead, he didnt just die on the cross. Christians believe we will all be resurrectred also, and moses spoke of jesus. "one day a new convenant will come where the laws are written on our hearts and not in stone" jesus is the new covenant. It's not feasable to try and understand God with human emotions or reasoning, he is not human. most human feelings come from evil, God does not get these feelings.
His ressurection was the final blow to satin and was neccessary.Peace Division said:I agree with Stevemac and will add that to say that Jesus' Resurrection made His death moot, is really missing the point. His death replaced the libations and such that Jews presented to God for the cleansing of their sins. By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, your sins are forgiven.
His Resurrection proves what Jesus said, that He would rise in 3 days, and shows people that there is and will be life after death. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and have eternal life in Heaven or do not accept Him and have eternal life in Hell. Also, His Resurrection is symbolic of accepting Him as Lord and Savior and "being born-again."
That is 100% true. But thats because we know who runs Hollywood.........11Mark Kerr said:On a side note:
Andy Rooney said he wouldnt not go see the Passions because "he wouldnt spend 9 dollars for just a few laughs..."
I am sorry, but if a Christian had said that about Shindler's List, they would have been fired the next day!

My fear is that there are people you think just like you and I, and will never set foot in a church because they feel all churches are the same. By the way, there is a church in Orange County that I know is not like the others. It is called Saddleback Community Church, and the pastor is Rick Warren.
garyzilla said:I am sad to see that you did not like the movie, but I think that you missed the point of the movie. The movie was of the last twelve hours of the life of Chirst, and that is it. If you where expecting to see the whole life of Chrst, you will be greatly disappointed. None of those events that you wanted to see happen in the last twelve hours. The point was to show really what Christ went through on the way to the cross, and on the cross. For me I will not look at the last twelve hours the same again.
Phreezer said:I know of saddleback church.. and I recently read "A purpose driven Life" by Rick Warren.. Very good book ... I honestly feel that book helped my faith a great deal.
