Time Course of Serum Testosterone Levels After Using & Discontinuing Androgel

I have been using Androgel on a daily basis. How will the timing of this Androgel application affect blood testosterone measures? Will it make any difference what time of day my blood test is in relation to the Androgel application?

If I were to stop using Androgel, how long would it take for a signifcant difference to appear on the blood test. Would 36 hours make a difference? How much of a difference would 60 hours make?

The documentation for Androgel gives some basic information on these issues. In states:

"Serum concentrations approximate the steady state level by the end of the first 24 hours and are at steady state by the second or third day of dosing."

"When AndroGel treatment is discontinued after achieving steady state, serum testosterone levels remain in the normal range for 24 to 48 hours but return to their pretreatment levels by the fifth day after the last application."

I tell my guys to give it two hours post application before drawing any bloodwork.

The rest is described adequately by the product info you provided.

Along those lines for Clarification purposes ........????

how long does Androgel stays in your system ? Or how long it will take for my Testosterone to drop a bit ??
In 2 months Androgel has raised my T Level from 107 to 902(normal range 241-827) and raised my Free Test to 27.5 (normal range 8-25). Results from 8/14/08. Androgel is the only medication I was using ! I have discontinued use now for two weeks now needing to drop my levels ! I also did bloodwork 9/5/08 and 24hr urinalysis for T/E ratios to see how much I drop!

Being it raised me so high on these two levels, did it also raise my T/E ratio , I can only assume my Testosterone/Epitestosterone Ratio is also high ????
Due to my occupation and competitions I am involved in I need to meet the IOC(International Olympic Committee) standards and cannot have a high T/E ratio , any knowledge or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I feel you did your labs wrong if you put on the gel the morning of your labs and did them with in 6 hrs your labs will be very high. If you have some gel on the spot the take the blood this will spike your labs. You did not say what your dose was but 10 grams will give you about 600. I did this many times and my Dr. would lower my dose and I would crash. Now we know I got up in the morning took a shower to be sure all the gel was off my arms went in did the labs them come how and put on the gel after.

In your case you need to be off any kind of testosterone or IOC will be all over you. I don't even think they would let you be on Testosterone with a Dr. saying you need it and you do need it.

If you need to be off Gels to be in this occupation don't do it at all. Adding testosterone shuts you down and stooping you might not come back up.

If I were in your shoes feeling as bad as I did when I first come down with this I would not compete your health is more important. Try to find out why your low if you find out it's over training you can fix this and not need Testosterone. You might have drove your Cortisol levels to low.

I did use gel before the bloodwork ( hopefully this is the reason levels were so high ) although I did increase my dose the previous 2months from 5gr to 10gr and on gels I usually get to the 800-900 range , Id love to stop but its not an option already diagnosed with Hypogonadism by Endo MRI of pituitary gland , I can use w/ medical documentation but I have to be within the proper T Level and T/E ratio , My endo specifically said he is ONLY concerned with my T Level , now Im in lost in the mix trying to figure out about T/E ratios , I've done some online research about T/E Ratios and from what ive been reading most likely being every other level is HIGH my T/E Ratio is prob over the limit ........................

I'll find out in a 1-2 days when I get results ,

Wow I didn't have any luck with the androgel my t levels actually dropped after using it for two months.

I am just amazed by your results, sorry if I missed it but what dose were you on?

For some men the gels don't get though the skin and if you have a thyroid problem your skin will become thicker and gels don't work well.

I would not try to get a T/E ratio this is much to do with nothing go by how your feel. Get your Total and Free T levels up into the upper 1/3 of your labs range for a young man. Keep your Estradiol down between 10 to 30 best at 20 pg/ml when you do this your night time and morning wood will be so strong it will wake you up when this happens your at your best levels.

I have has good T/E ratio's and could not get it up and did not feel all the great. I think this all got started by Dr. Shippen he talked about a 20/1 ratiol in his book " The Testosterone Syndrome"

Just for get about the numbers only use them as a tool go by how your feel.

I went from 5gr a day to 10gr a day by Dr.s orders ( in 2 months ), if your using the gel make sure area your applying to is free from hair ( that makes a world of a difference ) usually applied it to inner thigh / shoulders / arms evenly and twice a day morning and bed time ( if conditions permit ).

Unfortunately I have to keep my t/e ratio in range 4:1 for my competitions . I am diagnosed with Hypogonadism so HCG may help raise my natural levels improving my health & evening out the ratio , an option I must discuss with Dr.

Many people say the gels are garbage but I disagree it worked for me , but I recommend a Dr. that is knowledgeable with Wellness and Health and Male genetics so you recieve the best treatment as possible , Most endos will give you a shot of test or the gels and call it a day ! Unaware that all the other important levels of your body are now out of wack!

I'm in the same boat as you and will probably be facing a test next summer.

I'd like to know when I have to stop taking the gel to pass the test .
