time travel?

This guy seems to think that not only is it possible, but einstein's theories can be used to prove it, and that government research has already been done that shows that travel into the future is possible and has happened. Crazy stuff.

We are traveling into the future all the time, just by the movement of the earth. The closer you get to light speed the slower time goes. If you could reach light speed, time would stop for you, but would continue for everyone else. Lets say your in a space ship and it has reached a speed of 99.9% light speed (since 100% isn't possible) and you are going to a planet 1000 light yrs away. When you reach that planet only 1yr. has passed for you, but 999 yrs have passed on earth. You have just traveled into the future.

Where do you get your information? You're on the right track buddy but you would not have traveled into the future.

i am currently a few chapters into a book called
"The universe in a nutshell" i forgot who its by but hes a parapalegic and one of the smartest mofos in the world. it describes time travel, spacetime, and just about all of einsteins theories. This is crazy shit and i only hope that i can live to witness something like that in my lifetime. ie timetravel, discovering life on other planets, reaching lightspeed etc.

Facts-

consider that we have already developed superconducting materials which have virtually no impedance at absolute zero....near perpetual motion.....

absolute zero has not yet been reached

Whenever you look at the stars or other faraway objects in space, you are looking into the past - It takes time for their light to travel here. As far as time traveling, shit I don't know.

I don't know if time travel is possible. I doubt it, but maybe? I would be happy if I could just travel to and from work at reasonable pace. It takes me about 45 minutes to go 14 miles (talk about time travel). If I could average 60m/hr I would be happy.

He's Stephen Hawking. He is one of the greatest minds in the
history of mankind.

Time for us is a matter of preseption we are in the here and now, and every second in time our conciosness is moving forward. so if time is an energy as is our councousness could we not feasibly travel back in time without having to travel faster than the speed of light. but mearly learning to control our conciousnees and preseption.?

The word is perception and no, it is not simply a matter of our perception. If you had studied physics at even the most elementary levels, you would not have spoken....sorry to be so harsh but that is the reality. Time is a measured quantity....there is no perception to it. Those of you who have no basis talking about time are recommended an elementary calculus-based phsyics text and perhap an audio tape of a Richard Feynman lecture.

WOW you guys make me feel really dumb! But let me throw in my 2 cent. Time is a human term and bases upon MAN's idea of time. God made the world in 7 days but did God define a day as one revolution of the earth around the sun? Proof in Point in the Bible its states the age of several people and records them in the several hundreds. Did they really live that long? carbon dated has never verified this. IT IS OUR PERCEPTION OF TIME!!! CONSIDERING we only use 10% of our brain. Would our perception be the same if we used 50% of our brain or 90%. Just a thought?

The intent is not to make anybody feel dumb but shit, time is documented to a large extent so we could at least pivot from the fundamental body of knowledge rather than to regress. For those of you who have interest, there are a lot of online books and lecture transcripts available.
