time travel?

I was just thinking about this after watching something on TV. I don't quite see how it would be possible. I've heard a few theories put forth, but I'm not versed enough in physics to really comment on them.

All in all, I would probably be more inclined towards disbelief, though.

Do you remember the theories that you have heard, and why did you rule them out?

I have a feeling there are maybe are a shortage of bodybuilders/juicers(in the world) "that are physises" so i dont think we are going to be hearing from then if one of you bros does know somethin shoot

/sorry edidted this i messed up what i was sayin ""

Makes ya wonder........ Id like to go back and NOT get married

I think one theory has to do with "bending" the space/time continuum(?) and then being able to access another time period on it. I don't see how that is possible.

I think another is to travel faster than the speed of light (in the opposite direction of the earth's rotation?). I can see how going that fast might be possible. I mean, 40 years ago, the speed of sound seemed impossible and we've since done it. As to whether this would enable time travel, I don't know.

Assuming it's possible, I only see going back in time as being feasible. Traveling to the past makes sense because it has all happened already. Going forward brings up one of my most hated notions of fate.

To jump from 2004 to 2204 would mean that our lives are scripted, as are the lives of the next 7 generations.

 ......11

Errrr, yes, something powerful enough to bend the fabric of space-time.......ie, a black hole near the singularity. If I am not mistaken, astrophysicists found light consumed at the edge of a black hole.....I forgot the announcement's details but it was significant as it suggested that space time fabric could be manipulated

Its a pretty bizarre concept......yet, to walk back in time would be no different.....in other words, then their lives were scripted so to speak and it is not necessarily chaos which determines the outcome of the future, it is the summation of discrete outcomes.

For example, we are faced with many discrete scenarios over the course of our lives. You might be hit by the truck, you might not. If not, then go to the next scenario, ad infinitum and this establishes a sort of blueprint through life yet the outcome is unchanged. In a sense, yes, our disposition in this line of thinking would be scripted or perhaps the better term is predetermined much as the dumbest people sometimes make millions, the smartest person in the world may live on skidrow and seem to be useless to society....there is no fairness in life, it is simply a summation of outcomes and to consider being able to travel through time would suggest that those outcomes are not random.

I guess what I am saying is, if we believe that a walk back in time would be the same unless we changed the outcome, then we have to imagine that our path forward is the same and we can modify that same outcome but only after the delta between our current state and the year that we wish to modify in the future.....

This is some heavy shit......anybody want to drop some acid and fire up a Bob Dylan album???

:D

I volunteer to be the first to try it out.

The trouble is, your human carcass is not up to the trip.

Didnt they also make an electron 'go back in time' with a laser a while ago??? I think it was IBM's discovery......not sure.

lets say someone traveled 10 minutes into the past ...wouldnt that then completely change everything that happened for the next 9 minutes and 59 seconds after that...creating a completely new 'future' in a different plane?

IIRC they transported an electron particle across their lab.. I don't believe they sent it back in time.. I could be wrong but I think this is more related to "Transport" technology.

IF : time travel is possible = we lead 'scripted' lives = absolute life after physical death since every living thing would obviously contribute to possible outcomes of every other living thing

It depends on whether they could observe without changing the state of past time. If they changed past time by observing, then they would change the future and thus return to a different place than when they originally left....or so I would be led to think.
