Lisinopril is an older generation of medication. Why they don’t prescribe telmisartan more is something I do not understand. Old habits I guess...
Pretty much each class of blood pressure medication is going to be equally effective at reducing high blood pressure, it's just a matter of indication. For some people beta blockers are not suitable, but ACE inhibitors are probably the most easily tolerated. For some people the cough is an issue on ACE inhibitors and another class of drug might be more suitable.
Telmisartan is still relatively new and is not as commonly prescribed in some countries, but like with any other class of medication, you still have the potential to feel like shit on it.
I suggested one person I know to get a script for Telmisartan to try out instead of their ACE Inhibitor - they felt like shit compared to the ACE inhibitor and switched back.
