I got a roku already but my isp doesn’t allow hotspots. I thought about getting it jail broke. I used to install different roms on my android but I’m fairly new to Apple products.
And I have had usb sticks with Linux operating systems on it like your speaking of. I’m somewhat knowledgeable about what your talking about. I started learning about networking in 1997. But fast motorcycles, fast women and fast life detoured all that.
Hell I started learning code when I was 14 in 1986 on a Apple 2 e at the local college on a summer program my dad put me in. But all I cared about was pussy and smoking weed. I was a Huge disappointment to my father who was a machinist and engineer for Caterpillar
Came out of WW2 and went to work there and worked for 33 years before he retired from there.
I never could live up to my ole man. They don’t make them like him anymore.

See if you can tether your phone to a router. Then you can have WiFi throughout the house

Not a bad idea! I have the dongle that has HDMI output. Could possibly hook that into the router and then use the Wi-Fi off of it to hook up to other devices.

Well being on a WiFi network and having WiFi internet are two different things.

I actually didn’t understand his current setup till later. I think a roku tv would be a great product for him, because it can connect to hotspot and has Netflix/roku/hula etc built in

Correct. As long Internet tv unit has a remote you are able to connect to any “WiFi INTERNET” connection, otherwise if it is just a ROKU that connects via usb or chromecast a phone must be used and that is where the problems lies with hotspot.
