Real question fuckers. One of the unwritten rules of the gym is not to offer advice or help to strangers or someone who wasn’t directly asking for it. I get it but how do you all feel about kids in the gym. You think the rule applies to them as well. I have a bunch of kids in my gym that I wouldn’t piss on. Bunch of snowflakes. There are also a bunch that just look lost and could use a little guidance. You think it’s ok to offer it to them or are you still a douche.

I say let them come to you. If they're serious, they'll ask and learn.

My only concern with unsolicited advice to absolute beginners is not making the other person feel like dog shit and having them never return to the gym. Yeah I get it, can't be a bitch if you want to accomplish anything worthwhile in life, but don't underestimate gym-goers insecurities.

I've seen much bigger guys than myself offer advises to young kids or people who are completely green and have it received very nicely, but these guys are generally much older than myself. I'm in my mid 20's and don't feel comfortable giving advice to people around my age unless they ask. Just feels weird.

If they are doing something obviously ridiculous I usually intervene and offer some guidance.

Great question. I for one dont offer advice unless its asked. I had one kid watching me do tricep rope pulldowns and he jumped on the other side of the cable machine but he was trying to do my weight which was 140lbs at the time. I told him he would get more out of it focusing on form and not weight and that the increased weight would come in time. Lil fucker got a damned attitude. Piss on him then. Lmao. Now I see him doing all his exercises with too much weight and only moving anything about 2-3 inches. Whatever, punk lil ginger kid. I started calling him red head redemption. Lmao.

Not a douche at all. Especially if they are doing something that could get them hurt. I had this old ass dude lay into me years ago about deadlift form and it was all because he didn't want to see me get hurt. I wouldn't be a dick like that dude... Lol. But you get the point.

If no one points it out how are they gonna learn?

Hey hey hey ..... the “noob” here again lol , no dates this time I promise . First pin with TGI test in quad today , 240 mgs test e . All I can say is smooth smooth smooth zero PIP whatsoever , zero injection pain ..... incredible , I feel like I’ve been on a different planet for past 3 months with my previous supplier , used to be as I injected I could feel pressure and pain during and def pain for 2 days after every pin . Very early being first pin but I’m a firm believer in compliment where compliments are due !!!!
@ONDRUN is that you bro!? o_O
JK! :p

I can feel your excitement through this post bro!!! :D
I kinda like it!! ;)

Normally I would never say anything or offer. I did lose my shit on some kid one day because he was “training” another kid on how to do deadlifts. He wasn’t watching or helping or training in any way shape or form. Picture the worst possible form. It was worse. Kid even turned to him at one point and said his back was hurting. That was it for me. Tore him up in the middle of the gym. I probably looked like the biggest dick in the world but fuck it he deserved it. Approach is everything and I just feel like some kids are worth helping. Most wont take it but I feel like I have to at least try.

I see a lot of young kids in my gym. At times it’s so annoying because there’s so many and they’re kinda in the way. It’s obvious they don’t have a clue.
I honestly think it’s great that they’re there! They do need guidance. I think it be great if the gym owners would show some sort of guidance to these kids!
My gym has a personal trainer (young kid himself but knows his shit) and is very cheap. So that helps some.
I think the gym should do some sort of program to help new members that has just joined. For knowledge and encouragement.

For me, I’ll only help when asked. I’m there to get my shit in and get out to where sometimes I’m only focused at what I’m there to do! :)

A great place to start is high school weights, it should be mandatory. You learn the basics there and become more advanced on your own. Reading really helps, which no one wants to do. Learning physiology will greatly help you understand movements, but who has time for that? right.

Thing is, most of the information is out there..these kids just don't take the time to learn it. If you can help and it is well received, go for it. I feel like I'd be wasting my damn time.

Sounding old and grouchy..

Yeah, bodybuilding.com can even help put together workout routines and has instructional videos for every exercise out there. It’s truly on the person to figure this out. There is literally no reason for people to not know what they’re doing. Yet there is.

I had my son and nephew with me at the gym one time on an arm day. I was showing them basic mechanics with the dumbbell tricep kickbacks.
This little short chubby dude just comes up and starts instructing them as well, wtf!? It got to the point where it was kinda starting to piss me off! Lol
At least I look like I lift!
Anyway, I bit my tongue and plainly ignored him and just talked over him while trying to continue to instruct my nephew.
I’m just glad I wasn’t deep in a Tren cycle or things may have went differently :D
Still see the little chubby guy here and there but I ignore him like I did that day.

Pretend the phone is the dumbbell you’re using. This should have been your reaction:

If I see someone that needs guidance due to improper form, I ask them if they're open to feedback. 99% of the time they say yes.

One time years ago I just opened my mouth where I shouldn't have and got called the "form police" LOL. A week later the same guy got kicked out of the gym as he was a danger not only to himself, but others as well. Reckless idiot.

I've spent a lot of time in gyms and have probably trained well over 1000 people how to squat, pull, and lift properly (not really that many as it was never my long term career but just saying). A lot were athletes so they needed to listen and had some motivation but plenty of normal people too and kids.

I very rarely offer unsolicited advice. Kids learning and working is where I'm more likely but even then I put out a feeler first. I do not want to waste my time on someone who thinks they already know everything or wants to tell you what they know (cause I already know by watching that they know jack shit). Also the single worst guy in the gym is the one trying to help or instruct everyone...invariably they know nothing and just run their mouth constantly.

Anyway, watch, put out a feeler to test receptivity. If so and they WANT to learn, then help. Kids are rewarding to help. You really help someone they are thankful. Hell, I wish there were people who knew what they were doing when I was younger. Damn, I had to learn everything the hard way.

As far as form...I also tell them to get a copy of Starting Strength. Best technique book I know of. As far as goals...progressive resistance. Gradual increases add up hugely. 5lbs a week X 52 weeks is crazy fast.

Kind of feel the same. If they look like they're really trying, but just a touch lost I'll strike up a conversation. See how receptive they are from that.

But I've also had those guys that just kind of watch and creep. The ones you notice kind of trying to work in stuff that they're just butchering.

Ya try to give them some advice and they cop an attitude. Like...alright then. Have fun with the whole spinal stenosis thing...
