Topicals - is Absolute Ethanol better than IsoPropyl Alcohol ?

A lot of old topical recipes used Ethanol - Absolute Ethanol, the stuff in booze, in the topical formulas.

It seems very hard to obtain Absolute Ethanol these days, in the UK, they ban it from sale to individuals.

My question, if I could obtain some, is it 'better' or safer using Ethanol (grain alcohol) than using IPA (soured from coal)?

This may be a dumb question sorrybut may I ask what the intended purpose is?

What’s it being used for?

Sorry for lateness of reply, COVID has caused utter chaos in my family.

I don't like pinning the days, too many scars...

Now I make topical solutions, using alcohol and DMSO to dissolve raws, then topically administer on the skin. Works (very well indeed) but I do wonder about use of IPA, as since it is poisonous taken orally, I wonder would it be better to use Absolute Ethanol instead

I know for sure that Ethanol burns nerves and other tissues. My parents are physicians so i know it for sure. When you ingest Ethanol it passes trough the liver and is metabolized by enzymes. By passing liver with ethanol is dangerous. I suggest you to find ways to safely pin. How can be gluteus pins being a problem? Trust me, trust in the pin

IPA ain't THAT poisonous.
In fact it is possible to drink small amounts of it (not recommended but possible).

Absolute alcohol is very expensive as it needs to be chemically dried as the last 5% water forms an azeotrope that can't be distilled.

IPA would work fine, and it ain't toxic when used topically.
They don't call it rubbing alcohol for nothing.
