Training hard buit being alcoholic?

It depends on your definition of “alcoholic.” Some people consider it a clinical addiction, and some people think it’s just a guy who drinks too much.

Coming from someone who has recovered from it, alcoholics are unable to maintain a disciplined lifestyle. Eventually the house of cards will collapse. Once you reach the point of true alcoholism, you are no longer prioritizing anything other than your next drink. If you have to choose between spending your last $30 on food or alcohol, you’re choosing the alcohol.

Now there have definitely been a lot of athletes who simply drink too much. You hear stories about NBA players who kept liquor in their lockers and guys like Johnny Manziel who would party all night then drop 5 touchdowns the next morning. Those guys have not reached the point that they’re powerless over their addiction. So they wouldn’t be alcoholics by the definition used in recovery programs.

What is the goal?

If a person wants to drink and continue a destructive path there’s not much others can do.

If a person wants to quit alcohol I think hard training is a great “addiction” to plug in place of drinking habits. Excessive drinking hurts the person and a lot of times those close to the person as well.

I’m not pointing fingers or calling out but If you are struggling with drinking you can stop it and you got this!

Well Alcohol, is horrible for the body hormones etc. I wouldn't dare touch PEDs. I come from a family of alcoholics and they all died early. Isn't the point of training hard is to be healthy? I mean unless it's just for cosmetic looks but then again that would be for woman to look at ? What woman wants a alcoholic.

Here is a good read on how it effects every hormonal system in the human body

Alcohol and training = good.
Alcohol and steroids = bad.

So no gear for you.
Training and anabolic > alcohol and training

From someone who used to sell a lie to myself saying wine was okay bc it’s “healthy”. Working out while drinking is a waste of time. At least if you have any real goals of getting shredded, bodybuilding or powerlifting.

Quit the alcohol and reach your potential, you can do it.

I'm interested in your opinions...
How can you train hard if you’re alcoholic? How do you define an alcoholic? I thought alcoholics just lived to drink, some are functional but most are drunk all the time.

I think they already graduated from getting wasted every weekend to needing liquor to start your day and missing work due to passing out and waking up midday.

So I have no idea on when are you able to squeeze in a hard workout if you’re hangover most of the time.

If you feel the need to ask something like this, you need to quit drinking. Alcoholism is serious shit that you will live with forever. You never realize this until you try to quit, but can’t. That’s why you see a lot of people in these bodybuilding centric forums with addiction in their pasts. Quitting is not just a matter of not drinking—if you want to stay sober you have to basically start life over and relearn everything. Bodybuilding is so helpful here because it can be 24/7 all encompassing and it is a way to keep yourself mentally and physically invested in something.

If a person consumes alcohol- in any amount- removing the toxin becomes the body’s main priority.

I’m not going to say that a person can’t look good or great and enjoy a responsible amount of drinks . Many people do.

standing by my statement. Why obsess about things like nutrition and mind muscle connection only to pull back hours of progress with each drink?

You can workout and drink and possibly look great just don’t pretend it’s helpful in any way
