Trap problems

Hello all,

I started working out about 4 months ago, and thus far I've been happy with the results. However, I've noticed that my right trap is developing a lot quicker then the left; I assume because I'm right handed. What should I do to counter this?

Any help would be appreciated to sort my trap problem out.

What do you do for a living?

Well if it matters.......Canadian Military Police (it's not just a job, but an adventure). Back to the matter at hand, how do I even out my traps?

PS.....nice avatar!!!!

Its probably just your posture (ie: the way you hold your shoulders) that makes it look this way. I bet when you shrug both of your shoulders up and flex your traps, both of your traps are about the same size. Check it out and LMK

lol, the reason i asked is b/c what u do for a living can make a difference. For instance, a logger who runs a chainsaw all day will have a thicker back on his left side from holding the chainsaw.(assuming he is righthanded and doesnt alternate). This is one small example. If your profession doesnt have much physical labor than you eliminate that and it becomes and structural or physiological problem. Posture is highly likely. Have your wife or someone look at you from behind. You stand with normal posture facing a wall. They can check to see if you have a high shoulder. Your right shoulder is probably high and bunches the trap up a bit making it appear larger.

Are you doing barbell shrugs? How much weight?

Dumbbell shrugs?

You can try training your left trap with an extra set of 12 reps after you've nuked both traps for 4 sets.

Because they're dumbasses who don't know how to perform the exercise correctly. And they're often the ones who you'll hear complaining about shoulder problems in the not too distant future

Well I tried looking at my back (traps) in the mirror, and I do admit, the problem isn't as bad I thought......but my wife still tells me that my right trap does look bigger that the left..(maybe she's just fucking with my head).

As for training, I use dumbbell shrugs. I start at a low weight and pyramid up, usually to a max a 60-70 lbs.

Oh well, I guess I'll just keep at it! Thanks all.

were your shoulders level?

Yes, my shoulder were level.

When I flex and look at myself in the mirror from both the front and back, my right trap does appear slightly larger than the left.

Also, when I work my traps, I always feel the burn in my right trap...as if I'm working it more.
