TRT dosage and thyroid question

Started TRT this month. Clinic suggest 200mg test injection per week. Is this common as most people on here I note are at 100mg per week. Also they recommend starting a low dose of thyroid T4:T3. My T3 T4 and TSH were all in the normal range but closer to the low side of normal.. I do not want to suppress any more systems in my body than necessary. Can anyone else advise if they are doing this protocol as well?

There is NO reason to start thyroid meds. This recommendation alone raises huge RED FLAGS for their abilities. This is even more supported by their TRT dose.

What are the baseline labs.

Thank you for the feedback Dr. Scally. Below are my labs. I am 46 I have had a libido and erection issue for years now. Ran a few cycles 5+ years ago, nothing hard core, just 500 mgs test. Noticed while on these cycles my erection and libido were no longer an issue but stopped as it was raising my BP. Now my GP says testosterone is in the normal range, we all know the drill. Retested earlier in the morning and was 400 so he said not a problem at all and sent me on my way... Haven't woken up with a hard on for years.

Have gone to two different Anti Aging clinics locally. Was not really impressed with either. One said 200mgs test weekly. THe other said 200mgs test, plus DHEA 75mgs daily, plus half a grain of thyroid. Into week 2 of 200mgs of test Cyp. I though it should be lower but went with the dual recommendation. Did not start the thyroid or DHEA as I did not see anything in my labs indicating nor do I feel any symptoms of a thyroid disorder. I just wish I could find a reputable doctor in NJ who is not trying to sell me all this anti aging crap and will treat what is a classic case of low test.

All that typing and no reply?!?

There are some baseline studies missing, but you are right NOT to take the thyroid. Also, if TRT is ultimately indicated, the dose is lower as you suspect. And, I have NO idea where they come up with the need for DHEA. That is a huge RED FLAG.

That's what I figured, many thanks!

Even guys with adrenal failure (like me) generally don't take more than 50 mg of DHEA. That's... a sizeable dose, for no apparent good reason. Won't hurt you, but you might not like the way it feels (or the acne that might result), and it makes me wonder what the doc is thinking.

I have heard of a few docs starting new TRT patients on 200 mg/week until a higher steady-state is achieved, then dropping to 100 mg maintenance. Not sure what I think of that, but it doesn't seem completely crazy.

Do you have a Vit. D level?

Yes Vit D was 29 so I started taking a vit D suppliment.

Now on my 3rd week of 200 mgs weekly. Feeling great, libido is back times 10! BP is slightly elevated but only in prehypertenzive range. Will have labs done in 3 more weeks and then will question why they suggest 200mgs. Without a solid reply I wil reduce myself unless you recommend reducing before then.

Thanks Vantage. I was surprised both clinics wanted to start at 200mgs a week. I will not be returning to the other doc who wanted me to take all the above. I am not using the DHEA as I feel great right now and my goal is to take as few meds in life, not any that are not called for by labs or symptoms.

Sorry to dig up an old post Dr. What about his bilirubin 1.9? Mine had been 1.8 or lower last 7 years with no symptoms but I did have a na fatty liver diagnosis from an ultrasound 4 years ago.Sometimes it's 1.1 in range but out of range at least 6 out of 12 tests. Alt once was 12 points over but usually 3 points over. Sometimes perfect. I don't drink and this was before trt or light aas use. Last week bilirubin was 1.5 in July it was 1.1
No Dr has yet been consurned but it worries me. Am I correct that liver biopsy isn't needed unless values are at least double and just watching it is the best action? I do see normal ranges at other labs go up to 1.8 on bilirubin it's just some don't go that high. My last Dr. though I reversed my fatty liver my labs looked so good but he didn't confirm it with another test. Seems like cardio 30 days 5x a week before labs makes the bilirubin in spec. Thanks cause I value your opinion.
