TRT not working

I'm with Jaydee on the Proscar. I had the same experience with Avodart (similar to Proscar) -- complete loss of libido & permanent hypogonadism, and it didn't help my prostate anyway.

How are you know? Did any treatments help you?

Curmudgeon Im still not sure about the DHT testing. Some swear by blood testing, others by urine testing. I dont know. At a guess I would say that your blood test is a good indicator, but adding a urine would really confirm it.

Thanks for your input Temujin. I need TRT if only for the sake of my bones. Yet I don't want to lose my my hair... yet I don't want to lose my libido... yet I want to protect my prostate. It's a bit of a conundrum. I'm 30 and have a full head of hair. My 10-weekly reandron(nebido) shot pales in comparison with what pro athletes do and yet many have full heads of hair, and that was before Proscar too. (I bet many would actually want max DHT for performance reasons.) So I guess high DHT levels will cause MPB only if one is predisposed to it in the first place. But that still leaves the prostate. I believe my family history is not the best when it comes to prostate disease. Maybe I'll just have to chance it then.

I appreciate your concern with your prostate, but IF your one of the ones that goes flat on their face on proscar, your life can really go down hill quickly. Your prostate would be fine, but your life may not be worth living in every other department..and im not just talking about libido.

I would just keep an eye on your prostate through blood tests. Proscar is a very dangerous hormone disrupter. It shouldnt be used willy nilly.

jaydee,

What did you take finasteride for? How soon did you notice the bad sides? How soon did you quit after that? I am wondering if high DHT is all that it's cracked up to be. I've seen some reports that fina for young men without prostate problems has little value as far warding off future prostate problems is concerned. If I have no predisposition to MPB, will my hair still thin faster with higher DHT levels?

This is an old thread and I'm not jaydee, but I'm fairly certain he took it for hairloss. I'm in the same boat as him - had mild sides on it (libido, anxiety, weird vision symptoms) and quit. I got all the same symptoms as he did a few weeks after quitting and they do not seem to be going away. What a HUGE price to pay for vanity.
If you don't have MPB in your family, I'm guessing high DHT is not a problem.
