Trump Timeline ... Trumpocalypse

President Trump is not just seething about https://amzn.to/2MOz2N0 (Bob Woodward). He’s deeply suspicious of much of the government he oversees — from the hordes of folks inside agencies, right up to some of the senior-most political appointees and even some handpicked aides inside his own White House, officials tell Axios.

The big picture: He should be paranoid. In the hours after the New York Times published the anonymous Op-Ed from "a senior official in the Trump administration" trashing the president ("I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration"), two senior administration officials reached out to Axios to say the author stole the words right out of their mouths.
  • "I find the reaction to the NYT op-ed fascinating — that people seem so shocked that there is a resistance from the inside," one senior official said. "A lot of us [were] wishing we’d been the writer, I suspect ... I hope he [Trump] knows — maybe he does? — that there are dozens and dozens of us."

Civility?

That’s the card you’re pulling now, orangething supporters?
That’s where you’ve landed?
That’s your go-to play at this stage of the game?
Given your leader and your resume—
it’s a little late for you to roll that out at this point isn’t it?

After voting for a self-proclaimed genitalia-grabber.
After he suggested dissenters at his rallies should be beaten up.
After hearing him call violent nazis “fine people.”
After he bulldozed sacred Native American lands and turned frigid hoses on tribe elders.
After he ignored mass deaths in Puerto Rico and vilified their public servants.
After he began dismantling protections to our planet and shrinking our national parks.
After witnessing Flint, Michigan go without clean water.
After watching exhausted refugee families stranded at airports.
After leveraging religion to justify all manner of discrimination.
After ignoring evidence of a Russian interference that threatens our national sovereignty.
After seeing ICE raids in hospital rooms and workplaces.
After his gross, reckless fabrications about Muslims and Mexicans and immigrants.
After witnessing him work tirelessly to take healthcare from the sick and the poor.
After he vilified kneeling black athletes and badgered their employers into silencing their peaceful protest.

After his unhinged Twitter rants against private citizens and their businesses, against celebrities and political opponents and world leaders.
After terrorizing teenage shooting survivors on social media.
After allowing the radicalized Christian right and soulless NRA gun zealots to shape national policy.
After sanctioning Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka and Jeff Sessions.
After retweeting the toxic filth of Dana Loesch and Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter.
After celebrating while he’s alienated our greatest allies and aligned with malevolent dictators.
After your silence in the face of migrant children being ripped from their parent’s arms and placed in dog kennels.
After you sat silently while he embraced a Russian dictator over American Intelligence.
After digging in your heels for the past two years on every bit of it.

Now you want to pretend to be civilized?
Now want to talk about measured debate?
Now you want to wag your finger at us for being disrespectful?
Now you want to shame us for our supposed lack of manners?
Now you want to gaslight us into guilt and apology—as if we’ve lost our dignity, as if we’ve sacrificed our humanity, as if we’ve bastardized our religion, as if we’re the ones impervious to other people’s feelings.

With all due respect—to hell with your phony civility.

No, you don’t get to play that card. That request is off the table for you.
You lost that moral high ground somewhere between excusing his mocking of a disabled reporter—and celebrating brown-skinned kids in cages.
Your lengthy, sickening body of work over the past two and a half years is the greatest witness of your fraudulence.

You don’t really want civility, anyway. If you did, you wouldn’t still be supporting this president. Civility not what you’re asking for. If you were simply asking for that, we wouldn’t have an issue.

You want something else:
You want consent to your abject cruelty. You’re not going to get it.
You want our silence in the face of perversions of justice. It will not be forthcoming.
You want tacit approval for a white Evangelical theocracy. That ain’t gonna happen.
You want to us to quietly witness this President dismantling democracy. We’re simply not going to.
You want us worship your white, angry, American, gun-toting God. We won’t.
You want us to join you in your blind idolatry of a man fully lacking nobility. We won’t be.
You want the steady stream of Sarah Sanders lies, alternative Fox News facts to go unchecked. We’re not giving you that courtesy.
You want us to allow you to perpetuate dangerous false stereotypes of immigrants and young black men and Transgender people. We’re not going to.
You want us to excuse your supremacy and indulge your privilege and sanction your President’s bigotry and applaud this Administration’s legislated assaults on marginalized communities. It’s gonna be a long wait, friend.

No, we’re not doing any of that.

What we are going to do, is clearly, repeatedly, and unapologetically oppose it all with everything we have.
We’re going to push back hard against every divisive meme you produce, every incendiary Tweet he manufactures, every human rights atrocity this Administration generates, every effort you make to normalize monstrous behavior or excuse his ramblings.
We’re going to be unflinching, and we’re going to use our outside voices, and we aren’t going to mince words when it comes to the inherent worth of human beings, the affronts on our Constitution, or the hijacking of our faith traditions.

You can call that uncivilized if you’d like, but honestly we don’t give a damn.

We’re going to be profoundly pissed off whenever diversity is threatened or when human beings are treated as less-than or when religion is invoked to do harm or when America’s stability is under attack.

In the face of the inhumane things on display in this country right now, we’ll take the cause of humanity and our volume every single time.

We’re going to be loud in the cause of love, even if that sounds like anger in your ears.

Consider this an uncivil war.

You too halfblackthing supporter. I do disagree with that. You hate us and we hate you. The difference is we're running the show. So go ahead and whine, piss and moan, and act like the cunts you are. At the end of every day kneel down and tell yourself this. "Donald Trump is my President" LMAO

ANONYMOUS RESISTANCE
https://claytoonz.com/2018/09/06/anonymous-resistance/

There are two things Republicans in Congress and Trump sycophants need to give up; the fantasy there is a “deep state”within and outside the government conspiring to destroy Donald Trump, and the fantasy that Trump is anything other than a narcissistic dysfunctional human being with the intellect of a toddler who has any grasp of what it takes to be president of the United States.

Trump was still ranting, raving, and losing his mind over Bob Woodward’s upcoming book when The New York Times published an Op-Ed yesterday titled, I Am Part Of The Resistance Inside The Trump Administration.

It was an unusual move by The Times in that it was published anonymously, but with a note stating, “The Times today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure.”

The author claims that “many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.” He or she continues, explaining they’re not a part of the “popular resistance of the left,” and they believe in parts of the agenda and that much of it has made the nation “safer and more prosperous,” but “the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.” They intend to continue to thwart Trump’s “more misguided impulses until he is out of office.”

The writer claims the successes, “effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more,” has come despite, not because of Trump’s leadership.

He or she also claims that Trump “shows a preference for autocrats and dictators, such as President Vladimir Putin of Russia and North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, and displays little genuine appreciation for the ties that bind us to allied, like-minded nations.”

Trump proceeded to prove the writer’s point by calling the Op-Ed, “treason” and demanding that The Times turn the writer’s name over to the government for the sake of national security. Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the writer a coward and that the person should resign. Also helping to prove the author’s point and in attempt to show that someone believes in his leadership, Trump tweeted this morning, “Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims ‘unwavering faith in President Trump.’ Thank you to Chairman Kim. We will get it done together!”

Trump also gave a rant in front of camera’s claiming The Times were forced to apologize to their readers after he won the election for covering the campaign incorrectly (not true), that the anonymous editorial is “gutless,” his poll numbers are through the roof (if the roof is very low as his numbers are in the mid 30s), and that no one will come close to beating him in 2020. I find it amusing he’s talking about winning reelection when members of his staff are trying to remove him now. He also promised that a lot of news outlets will be out of business soon.

The one thing that is clear is there is a consistent pattern from reports in the media and book that those working with and closest to Trump do not have faith in him and believe he’s incompetent and dangerous to the nation. To believe otherwise isn’t just partisan anymore, it’s stupid. Only the worst of us continue to support Donald Trump at this point.

As Washington engages in a parlor game of trying to guess the writer, which will probably be discovered by noon, the White House is turning the furniture upside down to discover the author. All electronic devices will be examined, staff will be grilled, and at some point they’ll probably start demanding all their personal electronic devices and passwords to private email accounts.

There are questions. How “senior” is the writer in the Trump administration? Is he a hero or another who is complicit and will sell his soul to a dangerous human being to advance his own agenda? Should the author have provided his name, thus making the Op-Ed a public resignation letter?

What may be the most important question is; is this the beginning of the end? The writer claims members of the staff have “whispered” about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump.

It is NOT the job of the White House staff to restrain the president and keep checks and balances. That is the job of the other two branches of government (if you’re a Republican, those are Congress and the Supreme Court). Congress shouldn’t confirm anyone Trump nominates to lifelong positions if his staff believes he’s incompetent and while he’s under investigation for being illegitimate.

While I am glad someone is speaking out and maybe there are a few “adults in the room,” we don’t need these people writing anonymous columns. We need them to speak and stand up publicly, and call for this illegitimate, incompetent, and dangerous man’s removal from the presidency.

Assume for a sec that the US is in the midst of a constitutional crisis (it is). Notice how the stores are still open, your bus completed its usual route & the game still on? That’s what makes genuine crises terrifying, bc they (co)exist for so long within our normal exp of life.

They continue to do so all up until the point that they don’t. When the news is no longer something you can turn off, when it’s on your street, at your kid’s school, in your community, it’s too late for “resistance”. Then it’s largely a matter of individual survival.

That’s why both scholars of authoritarianism/sectarianism and/or survivors of such regimes have implored you to organize & inform yourself now, when it is/was still “normal”, when it’s still “someone else’s” child, when it’s a Q of archaic rules of order.

The last two days have brought credible allegations of major dysfunction & crisis w/in the USG. There are fundamental Qs re the integrity/legitimacy of the 2016 elxns. It’s unclear what, if any, steps have been taken to secure the mid-terms. Above all...

...the fact that it is unclear who is, genuinely, in charge, what the civilian/military chain of command is, what would happen in event of a major security crisis suggests the situation has already catastrophically deteriorated.

Until there is a concerted & consistent civil society & Congressional effort to restore accountability & leadership in the WH, it is difficult to see any of this ending w/o major instability of sort unlike anything Americans have seen in generations & possibly ever.

These flummoxed observers aren’t wrong about Donald “Don’t Believe What You See and Hear” Trump’s terrible, duplicitous and unabashedly https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a22547037/donald-trump-orwellian-truth-reality-eyes-ears/%E2%80%9Dnature, but their incredulity is naive.

Yes, the evidence is clear as day—to people who pay serious attention to evidence. Nine of every 10 Americans—and certainly a larger share of Republicans and Trump backers—believe in the existence of God. Ask most Americans what exactly one is supposed to believe in when it comes to “God,” and they will say little or nothing in the way of empirical proof. It’s never quite clear what the concept and word mean. It’s about https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://chomsky.info/1990____/%E2%80%9D.

Evidence is easily devalued in a faith-based nation in which https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://www.amazon.com/Death-Liberal-Class-Chris-Hedges/dp/1568586795%E2%80%9D(a critical component of authoritarianism and hardly limited to religious and metaphysical matters) is rife.

...

But, of course, it’s not about racism, nativism, sexism or authoritarianismwhen it comes to understanding Trump’s base. White racial and gender identity and authoritarianism have long merged with and cross-fertilized each other. Last May, political scientists Steven V. Miller and Nicholas T. Davis released a http://svmiller.com/research/white-outgroup-intolerance-democratic-support/ titled “White Outgroup Intolerance and Declining Support for American Democracy.” Their study found a strong correlation between white Americans’ racial intolerance and support for authoritarian rule. “When racially intolerant white people fear democracy may benefit marginalized people of color,” https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/trump-effect-new-study-connects-white-american-intolerance-support-authoritarianism-ncna877886%E2%80%9D, citing the Miller and Davis paper, “they abandon their commitment to democracy.”

The Trump base’s bigotry and its leanings toward authoritarianism are not separate problems. They are inseparably linked. When Trump calls Mexicans murderers and rapists, when he rails about the need for building a wall, when he denounces the media as “fake news,” when he disses judges and the rule of law and juries, and when he praises authoritarian leaders, he is appealing to the same voters.

The most sophisticated and statistically astute analysis of the 2016 Trump electorate produced so far has been crafted by political sociologists David Norman Smith and Eric Hanley. In an article published in Critical Sociology last March, Smith and Hanley found the white Trump base was differentiated from white non-Trump voters not by class or other “demographic” factors (including income, age, gender and the alleged class identifier of education) but by eight key attitudes and values: identification as “conservative”; support for “domineering leaders”; Christian fundamentalism; prejudice against immigrants; prejudice against blacks; prejudice against Muslims; prejudice against women, and a sense of pessimism about the economy.

Strong Trump supporters scored particularly high on support for domineering leaders, fundamentalism, opposition to immigrants and economic pessimism. They were particularly prone to support authoritarian leaders who promised to respond punitively to minorities perceived as “line-cutters”—“undeserving” others who were allegedly getting ahead of traditional white Americans in the procurement of jobs and government benefits—and to the supposed liberal “rotten apples” who were purportedly allowing these “line-cutters” to advance ahead of traditional white American males.

Support for politically authoritarian leaders and a sense of intolerance regarding racial, ethnic and gender differences are two sides of the same Trumpian coin. The basic desire animating Trump’s base was “the defiant wish for a domineering and impolitic leader” linked to “the wish for a reversal of what his base perceives as an inverted moral and racial order.”

Is Trump’s narcissism a problem for his backers? Not really. As psychologist Elizabeth Mika https://www.amazon.com/Dangerous-Case-Donald-Trump-Psychiatrists/dp/1250179459 (noted) last year in an essay titled “Who Goes Trump? Tyranny as a Triumph of Narcissism”:

The tyrant’s narcissism is the main attractor to his followers, who project their hopes and dreams. The more grandiose his own sense of self and his promises to his fans, the greater their attraction and the stronger their support. … Through the process of identification, the tyrant’s followers absorb his omnipotence and glory and imagine themselves winners in the game of life. This identification heals the followers’ narcissistic wounds, but also tends to shut down their reason and conscience.

If that sounds anything like “creeping fascism,” that’s because it is. As political scientist Anthony DiMaggio https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://www.counterpunch.org/2018/08/21/fascist-nation-the-alt-right-menace-persists-despite-setbacks-2/%E2%80%9D:

There are too many red flags in public sentiment to ignore the threat of creeping fascism. Ominously, one of the strongest statistical predictors of support for Trump is the desire for a strong leader who will ‘crush evil’ and ‘get rid of the rotten apples’ who ‘disturb the status quo.’ Half of Republicans say they trust Donald Trump as a more reliable source of information than the news media—more reliable even than conservative media outlets. Nearly half of Republicans think media outlets should be ‘shut down’ if they are ‘broadcasting stories that are biased or inaccurate,’ raising ominous possibilities regarding precisely who will act on such allegations. … The cult of Trump is not an abstract phenomenon, but one that has real implications. … The danger of fascist creep is also seen in the support from most Republican Americans for shutting down the 2020 election, so long as Trump declares it necessary to combat fictitious voter fraud. Conservatives’ acceptance of this conspiracy theory continues, unfortunately, despite the president’s own ‘voter fraud commission’ being disbanded after failing to find any evidence of it.

Is Trump’s “creeping fascism” a problem for his backers? Leaving aside the interesting debate among liberal and left commentators about whether Trump is a real or creeping fascist, it is unlikely that more than a small number of Americans could provide even the remotest outlines of a working definition of what https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttp://www.pathfinderpress.com/Struggle-Against-Fascism-in-Germany-The-Trotsky%E2%80%9D was or what https://www.truthdig.com/articles/creeping-fascism-isnt-a-problem-for-trumps-durable-base/%E2%80%9Chttps://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/128540/the-anatomy-of-fascism-by-robert-o-paxton/9781400033911/%E2%80%9D is in the world today. It’s hard for people to reject something they know little or nothing about regarding its existence and nature (even as they are thinking and acting in accord with some of the phenomenon’s key characteristics).

As the dangerously declining superpower that is the United States moves at an accelerating pace, under Trump, into a period that deserves to be called at least pre-fascism, it is an even better time than usual to heed George Santyana’s warning: “Those who cannot learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.”

Liked it so much, I thought it deserved another round.
