Out of all the god-awful, horrifying horrible stuff Donald Trump has inflicted upon this nation, and there’s been a lot, perhaps his greatest offense has been his administration’s treatment of migrant children.
Don’t get me wrong. The past two years has been one nightmare after stupid racist nightmare, with each new one being worse than the last. While the disaster and deaths in Puerto Rico may be the first Trump tragedy that comes to many minds, that situation was one of neglect, incompetence, and a total lack of not caring. But, what Trump has done concerning families and children crossing our southern border is intentional. Trump and the racist dregs he’s staffed his administration with set out to traumatize children as a way to discourage foreigners from not just entering our national illegally, but from seeking asylum.
Donald Trump is a horrible person. He designed a horrible policy that was implemented by people nearly as horrible as he is. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions got giggly while explaining the new policy, and Homeland Security Director Kirstjen Nielson has blamed the parents of children who died while in the custody of Border Patrol.
When this issue is discussed, or I post a cartoon on it, there’s always some Trump sycophant who’ll point out that Obama separated families too. That argument is a deflection and a case of whataboutism. It doesn’t defend Trump in any way. Yes, Obama’s administration separated families, as in, “some” families. The Obama administration didn’t create a policy that EVERY family had to be separated. That is exactly what the Trump administration has done.
Donald Trump and the evil idiots of his administration firmly believe that a policy of cruelty is what will make America great again. When you display to the entire world that you’ll throw children in cages, traumatize them by separating them from their parents, deny people the right to request asylum, and implement policies that actually lead to the deaths of seven and eight-year-old kids, what you’re doing is not making America great.
There are a lot of people supporting Trump who believe this agenda of cruelty is best for America. Near the end of 2018, the majority of the nation rejected Trumpism and his goal of making the United States a more cruel and evil place. They rejected the darkness of the Trump administration and took the first steps toward the light. Hopefully in 2019, the light gets brighter.
Old Man 2018 is an asshole. When Baby New Year arrives, he better enter from the north as the racists aren’t manning that border.
Everyone in Washington should make it their New Year’s resolution to end the incarceration, punishment, and traumatization of children.

A corrupt and fraudulent family foundation. Hush money to mistresses to help swing an election — felony violations of campaign finance laws. Seeking and embracing the help of an enemy to win an election. Repeatedly obstructing justice to cover up those crimes.
Selling out American interests to patrons overseas. Profiting from the presidency. Helping foreign murderers cover up the murder of an American permanent resident. Attacking our allies. Destroying the international architecture that has been the foundation of our strength.

An international record of celebrating despots and autocrats and kleptocrats and brutal totalitarians and enemies. Unprecedented isolation from America's friends and a repeated record of insults of them and international rejection of him as a trusted leader.
Attacking America's law enforcement institutions. Attacking America's intelligence institutions. Collaborating with fellow travelers in Congress to circumvent the laws and to undermine decades and decades of regulation. Irreversible damage done to the environment.
A campaign to take health care away from the neediest Americans. A systematic effort to deport productive contributors to our society who have lived and worked here for decades. Hypocrisy. Vulgarity. Deceit. Mounting evidence of criminal behavior. Serial violation of his oath of office. Serial betrayal of his country.
This is our president. This is the heir to Washington and Lincoln. He stole the office with the aid of our enemies, and he has done grievous damage to this country ever since.
WASHINGTON — On the seventh day of a partial government shutdown, President Trump threatened on Friday to close the southern border and cut off aid to Central America if Congress refuses to fund a wall.
“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” Mr. Trump tweeted Friday. “Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!”
Mr. Trump escalated his threats as up to 800,000 government workers were left in limbo and with Congress not set to take up the issue again until after the new year. “At this point, it looks like we could be in for a very long-term shutdown,” Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina and a close ally of Mr. Trump’s, told CNN.
Democrats stood firm against agreeing to funding for a border wall, according to a spokesman for Representative Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California and the incoming House speaker. “Democrats are united against the President’s immoral, ineffective and expensive wall, the wall that he specifically promised that Mexico would pay for,” the spokesman, Drew Hammill, said in a statement. Mr. Hammill also noted that the White House has made no formal outreach to Ms. Pelosi since Dec. 11, when Ms. Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the minority leader, met with the president at the White House.
