Vacuum poses/training

I have been reading about vacuum poses/training and I was wondering if this is something that many people actually do? A friend of mine does them religiously (3 - 4 times a day) and he swears they make a difference.

The idea is that if you do them frequently or daily that you will train your abdominal muscles to keep that form or shape. I have been working hard on my abdomen lately and this is something that intrigues me.

Any input would be appreciated!
