Var in MCT oil

Guys.

I’ve never tried brewing var into an oil solution but came across this study where they gave var to newborns. Buccal administration (gums?). It mentions that it was in MCT oil.

Thoughts how they might have brewed this? I imagine they didn’t use super solvents if they’re giving this to infants but who knows ?

Reference 26 of that paper:

Methods
Sample preparation. An oral sus-
pension of oxandrolone 1 mg/mL was prepared by thoroughly grinding 24 2.5-mg oxandrolone tablets a
in a glass mortar. Thirty milliliters of Ora-Plusb and 30 mL of either Ora-Sweet or Ora-Sweet SF were mixed and added to the powder to yield a final volume of 60 mL. Details of the procedure can be found in the appendix.

Three identical samples of each
formulation (Ora-Plus with Ora-
Sweet, and Ora-Plus with Ora-Sweet SF) were prepared and placed in 2-oz amber plastic bottles with child-resistant caps and stored at room temperature (23–25 °C). After thorough but gentle shaking by hand to prevent foaming, a 1-mL sample was withdrawn from each of the six bottles with a 5-mL micropipette im-
mediately after preparation and at 7, 14, 35, 60, and 90 days. Samples were diluted to an expected concentration of 200 µg/mL with the mobile phase and assayed in duplicate using high- performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC).

Appendix—Procedure for
compounding oxandrolone suspension 1 mg/mL

1. Count out 24 2.5-mg oxandrolone tablets.
2. Triturate the tablets in a glass mortar to produce a fine powder.
3. Mix 30 mL of Ora-Plus with 30 mL of either Ora-Sweet or Ora-Sweet SF; stir vigorously.
4. Levigate 30 mL of diluent into the oxandrolone powder via geometric dilution until a
smooth suspension is formed.
5. Transfer the mixture into a 2-oz, child- resistant, amber plastic prescription bottle.
6. Rinse the contents of the mortar into the bottle with enough diluent to bring the final
volume to 60 mL.
7. Thoroughly mix to obtain a uniform suspension. Label the bottle “Shake Well Before Use” with a beyond-use date of 90 days after
preparation.

Standard oral suspension for delivery to buccal mucosa. I prefer the troches. Much easier to make sure the drug is delivered through the mucosa.

No details on the MCT solution. See references in the back (32, 33). Appears the API concentration so low they just dissolved 1 mg/ml of oxandrolone in the MCT.

No need for a solution. Even 100 mg oxandrolone troches are easily doable and simple as a mint under your upper lip.
