I gotta see what the heel height is on these, if the Romaleos have the highest then that makes things a lot simpler for me.

I looked it up. Both have the exact same heel height: 1.9 centimetres (0.75 inches). This may be part of the IOC regulations, they are shoes for competition after all.

You can always get cowboy boots if heel height is what you want.

If you are just using them for squats go with the Adidas Powerlift as Marcus mentioned. $90 and IMO squatting is basically what they were made for. Had mine for two years, no issues and they are holding up well.

If the Adipower or Romaleos prove to be beyond the budget, I'll add another vote for the Powerlifts. I tried quite a few of the less prestigious shoes and those were my favs. FWIW though, I ultimately settled on some Adidas suede skate shoes.

I always wear either combat boots or a pair of Columbia hiking boots I love and that I've beat to shit. I lift in boots, do pull-ups in boots, and squat/deadlift in boots. Boots are the best shoes on earth!

I've been using the adidas powerlift 2.0's for the past year and they're pretty good. Not anywhere as good as romaleos/adipower's but cost less than 1/2 the price. Look around. I got mine for around $70.

I'm just guessing. I think it's to keep the foot from shifting in the shoe.

At first I thought it was for heavy weight but powerlifters use chucks with no straps. Then I deduced it was due to the heavy weight plus the shifting of the feet during the oly lifts.

If you're not doing oly lifts you probably don't need the straps. The heel helps a lot if you ATG squat tho. If you're looking for a lifting shoe that's like chucks but better, check out the Reebok Crossfit Lite TR designed by Mark Bell.

Don't go to the Crossfit reebok site. Go to the main reebok site and look for the Sale section. Then search by sport Crossfit. They got them there for $70. Good luck.

These are for the Crossfit version of chuck taylors. Sorry don't have a deal for romaleos, I had a coupon from USAW but it's expired.
