What is all the fuss about P90X?

Any1 ever tried it? I think that in my "golden years" I might try something like this when I want to minimize workouts as much as possible while having both the benefits of CV conditioning & skeletal muscle maintenance, as I'm sure there will come a time when I won't care about adding muscle, just strive to keep what I got.

However, just taking a look at the workout, it seems as if the lower body is too neglected though. Cud ppl please chime-in on experiences they have had w/ P90X?

yea its a video of people being active - not just sitting on the couch. Many people 2day have no clue wtf it is 2 sweat or do work. p90x offers several good examples. As a all @ program my buddy uses it non -stop as part of his cross fit Training.

I also have a question about p90, but let me give some background.

My wife is starting on it. She is a sweet, loving wife, who works full time, yet still cooks for me 6 days a week. She is also an excellent mother to our son, has a very beautiful face and is 15 years younger than me

The problem is, she is completely lazy when it comes to working out. When we met, she was 25 lbs overweight. I was seeing other women.....I never lied about this fact. Instead I told my future wife that I was a gym rat, and that my partner had to be into fitness as well. I did up a diet for her and trained her for 6 months. She looked awesome, and we were having sex 10 times a week. She got pregnant, I proposed and she became huge....OK, since she was pregnant.

However, she did not get back in shape after our son was born, probably because we were married. I had just made some money in CA real estate, and she rang up $22k on my credit cards (and took them out representing herself as me= IE ID theft, a felony
) So, I kicked her out of the house. She realized that I was serious and joined Cross Fit. She got into great shape via Cross fit, but eventually stopped going. Now she goes to the gym and usually only does cardio. She says that she lifts, but I see no evidence of any resistance training.

She is now 25 lbs overweight again. On the other hand, I have lost 20 lbs of fat over the last 6 months, and hope that she wold too, but it has not happened so far. She started P90 this week, but how effective is it?

She says the first 2 w/outs were tough.

I should add that I am prejudiced against fat people. They are fat because they have no discipline, they are too lazy to workout and unwilling to alter their diet. I am a "fatist." Unlike race or gender, which people have no choice about, fat people are responsible for their condition.

How long does it take to do the full p90 program?

So, how effective is p90? Should I see a dramatic change after 3-4 weeks?

Wife said she did lots of lunges and no weight squats, it was the 2nd workout.

wow lol ! p90x is pretty much a watered down mma and boxing crosstraining . it works if ur on a low carb diet and acutally pushing urself u should see results 3 months .

The genome and epigenome most certainly play a role in the development of obesity. A hypercaloric diet leads to weight gain. This is elementary. The question is why do people eat more than they need? On the one hand, food must be plentiful, but there must also be a desire to eat. It's what controls that desire that is key. Some people walk around at >40% BF. I would put money down that most of you could not achieve this if you tried. You couldn't eat enough for long enough to put on the fat. The vice-versa is that most obese people in this predicament can change their diet and exercise and lose weight, however, they can't maintain the hypocaloric diet for long enough to reach <10% BF. Holding them to that standard is ludicrous.

It's not that there are fat people and skinny people though, it's a spectrum. Most of us are a standard deviation away from the average. So most of us just above average, albeit such as your wife PC, can diet and exercise and achieve a lower %BF with a little hard work. This work is easier for people with genetically influenced lower setpoints though, and harder for those with higher setpoints.

Good point, Joe. However my wife's mother, father, brother and sister are not at all fat. Also, she refuses to eat breakfast, or even a protein shake and a piece of fruit. She has a number of bad habits that she refuses to change. When I was younger I simply would dump someone who refused to get fit. Of course I don't have that option. Like I said, my wife is very sweet (we pretty much never fight) and we have a wonderful son. I already decided I would not leave or cheat on her. Last night I was looking at her, and her face, if we got rid of a chin, is beautiful. When she was in shape, her face was a 9.5.

She is a food service director, and I would bet the bank that she does not eat clean at all when not around me. I have always been one to know that trying to change the behavior of a sedentary/lazy/undisciplined person is a waste. But like I said, she has gotten in good shape on 2 occasions. I also had her run some panels and they suggested that she needed a bit of T3. She takes a small amount of T3, so I doubt it is her genetic predisposition that is holding her back.

This thread made me laugh. I used to be a fattist. Then I thought about some people who I have worked with over night and shift work kinda living with them and they don't eat that much or sit around, they are just fat. Of course you have the disgusting slothful glutton like my friend who is always moaning about his health but at the same time will merrily consume 2 litres of coke, 2 or 3 pies and donuts in a 30 minute lunch break. Just utter greed and it does disgust me but I don't tar every fat person with the same brush cos some people just seem to get fat no matter what they do. I'm the complete opposite although I don't eat excessively.
