What role do genetics play?

Our Health + Ancestry DNA Service - 23andMe

A gym acquaintance told me about these guys and i find it very interesting. Said he paid $200 and got a full printout of his genetic traits right down to fast twitch/slow twitch count, tendencies, allergies, family heritage, blood line etc etc. A little spit in a vial. Mail it off and they send you results

I think this could be pretty damn useful to know for a strength athlete/bodybuilder.

I just wanted to let u guys know. Heard about it this morning from a friend at the gym. He actually used it. Said it works great and found out a whole bunch of stuff about HIMSELF. $200 is alot but its sooooo cool!

I think Jerry Ward has a YouTube video with this and a discount coupon code.

Not sure if it is the same company though. Service sounds the same.

Id like to see how much of my blood comes from neanderthals
Says they can break down your DNA to your sole ancestor and even put you in a pool of ppl with similar DNA to help you track ur roots

I think you might be 100% Neanderthal, Trukk.... :D

On a serious note, I think I might try this... I, unfortunately, don't have very much info in regards to where my family came from. I have a pretty unique last name that doesn't really give a good indication where I'm from either. This might be a good way to get an idea of where my roots are.

Lol. Yes, unique... I have been told by others that it's possibly been shortened from a much longer, more complicated last name from when my ancestors came here.

My GF family had some theories too but no one really knows...

I was told German when I was growing up... When I got older and questioned where they got that information from, my grandma told me, "well, I just thought it sounded German..."

Thanks Grandma...

Imagine how I feel....when my great grandfather came over from the Ukraine, he gave his last but his vocabulary was so bad, his last name was mispelled and the last letter was changed completely....i didnt learn this until years after....i got my last name tatted across my back:(

They got into some trouble years ago about not having accurate testing controls. Things may have improved.

I would dig a little before using them. I hope it's the real deal. I want to do it also.

Lots of last names were changed in the mass immigration process thru Ellis Island. Mine was as well.
My grandmothers maiden name was a beautifull Italian name. They butchered it in to pigeon Italian English. Then she married a dutchman. Hence me. So its always interesting to learn about your history

I thinking that it could show you better ways to train. Cool that it shows muscle fiber breakdown. Could be a ticket to more gains is what i figure

I have 2 buddies that have had something like this done in Canada but not this one. There are a few different things they offer. With prices going from 200 and up but the bottom line is they can show you with your DNA how to grow muscle faster, so they say

I mean, if you consider sunlight exposure, I'd say some ethnicities have higher testosterone and igf. Some populations burn fats better, some burn carbs better. I'm from scandavia I burn animal fats good, but my buddy from Chile is probably better with starchy carbs. Whereas my friend from the amazon region is really good with tropical fruit.

Well the ethnicities and hormones is true.

Chilean people, in general terms, have a very high bodyfat - asides the "streetdrug users" obviusly. The chilean ancestors are the "Mapuches".

My case is basically the follow.A mix between french, chilean and jews ancestors. When I run the poliquin breakfast and train very hard -let´s say with bones pain - after three weeks my face is moonface in aesthetic terms and the bloat increase. Sure, the poliquin methods are great for the caucasian people. In fact poliquin knows that the asian people, for example, can eat a lot of carbs.I´m not saying that is true to all cases anyway.

Lemme guess?
Black guyz must burn thru fried chicken real easy?
Jews can digest hummus better than other ethnicities?
Orientals have a affinity to domestic animals?
Mexicans breakdown beans better?
