Can anyone recomend a good radar detector? Buying it as a gift for someone. I don't want to buy them crap but don't want to spend a zillion $$'s either. Thanks............................Mb

the one i have is one of the best out there... its called Valentine1... it tells how many cops there are... which direction they are (side, front, back)... and it also lets you know if they are false radars such as the radars at "quickie marts"

valentine1.com... good but it runs about 400$

damn that would be nice to have but very pricey. I could get four tickets for free if i dont buy it :)

Whid is right. The Valentine One is Awesome! Went from Charlotte to Hartford Thanksgiving weekend at about 90+. I avoided about 23 tickets!

that is what i am thinking. right now no insurance co. will touch me. i had two accidents go off my 3 year record on dec 3rd so i may be able to get touched again. ;) still alot of tickets etc that they dont want to c. Last time i called for rates they asked how many accidents/tickets i had and I said 1 or 2 than they came back and said we found more on your record and i said it could've been a roommate and than she was like how many roommates did you have b/c there were so many lmao. she believed me that it wasn't possible for one person to have that many tickets lol. Geiko wanted 2400 or 2600 for 6 months of liability only. B4 my bad string of tickets etc i was paying 400/6 mo's for liability on one car and full coverage on the other. sorry to take over the thread. I am outta here for the day. take care

I don't think there worth the money, a couple of years ago I went out and bought a passport, got a ticket the first weekend I went out of town going 35 mph over, was pissed cause I wouldn't have been going that fast without it, fucking thing goes off and I look over to see a cop pointing a radar gun at me from way off the road in the woods, he had a instant on radar, my buddy that was riding with me did have a beer he was able to eject before the cop could catch us tho, the thing sits in a box in my garage ever since. Oh and the damn thing goes off all the time, you'll wear out a set of brakes if you slow down every time it goes off. Later cinnabar

traveling back and forth from college to home its a must for me... especially on the highways i go down... i put it on cruise control at about 95 and just go... if you put the valentine1 on its most sensative mode it will pick up cops radarin cars up to a couple miles away if its a straighter road...

i cant drive wtihout it... before i had it i got 5 speedin tickets and was gettin one every 3 months or so.. and i've had it for about 8 months and havnt had one...

I was'nt looking to spend even half that for my friend, but I think I'm going to look into that Valentine1.com for myself. Does it also cloak and how is it going through a city? The one I have now does'nt STFU sometimes. Thanks again......................Mb

I agree with everyone else. A Valentine1 is the ONLY detector worth spending your hard-earned money on. IMO, youre just pissing away $100 or $200 by purchasing a Bell or Passport or whoever else makes detectors.

The last time I checked eBay, I didnt find anything that cheap. I would imagine that the ones going for $250 are a few years old, meaning they would have to be sent back for upgrades. Not a big deal, but something to consider. The V1 website has an area where you can check what upgrades (if any) need to be done to a detector based on its serial number. Most of the auctions Ive looked at all list the serial # for that model.
