What's the most effective tricep work ?

I am currently doing triceps with my 5x5 routine and was advised to do tricep extensions. I have been doing standing tricep extensions with a barbell but was wondering if this is the best thing to do or maybe i should be doing them a different way ?
 
That's probably a good exercise for them in conjunction with the 5X5. I'd stick with it if I were you.
 
Depends if doing compounds close grip bench, dips.
Isolations, skull crushers, standing french press, I like those as they are already pre-stretched with the arms extended above the head.
 
my personal favorite with the 5x5 is weighted dips. I'm up to adding 115 lbs via dipping belt to my body weight for 8 reps. It's awesome. Don't forget to use a full range of motion.
Another favorite for triceps is close grip barbell benchpress.
