Whats your view on artificial sweeteners? Are they good/bad?

The most common sugar substitutes are:

  • Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet). It's mostly used to sweeten diet soft drinks.
  • Saccharin (Sweet'N Low, Sugar Twin). It's used in many diet foods and drinks.
  • Sucralose (Splenda). It's in many diet foods and drinks.
  • Acesulfame K (Sunett). It's often combined with saccharin in diet soft drinks.
  • Stevia (Truvia, PureVia, SweetLeaf). Stevia is made from a herbal plant and is used in foods and drinks.

I don’t mind Stevia because it’s natural. All those others I will rarely consume because they make me feel fuzzy in my brain. I’ve read way too much negative on them to believe they’re safe, so I avoid them.
I was wondering if these products cause you or others to gain weight, etc. I figured if anyone knows their bodies, its body builders. A lot of studies say people actually gain weight on these zero calorie products.

How could you gain weight on zero calories? The fat bodies who gain weight aren’t gaining weight from zero calorie drinks, they’re gaining weight by being triggered by something sweet, then eating a whole cheesecake because they have no self control. Nothing to do with a zero calorie drink.

I used Sweet N low for years till I discovered Stevia...and now I ask for Stevia when I buy coffee at Starbucks. SnL is bad for long term health I've learned so it was time I made that switch to Stevia.

Recently I've discovered Whole Earth stevia while at Statbucks so now I bought a small case of it for my coffee at home!

And do you think it's better than the Stevia Walmarts sells under their brand name that is probably 1/4 the price? I doubt it.
I've tried the Great Value stevia and it seemed a bit bitter for me. There was this other brand called Zing and my local supermarkets no longer sell it. Got the 800 packet box at a warehouse store near me for like $35

The studies are wrong. Artificial sweeteners do not make you gain weight. They don't trigger appetite. They don't add calories. They don't give you cancer. They don't destroy your gut biome.

Soft drinks do destroy your teeth though. Acid will destroy enamel even if there is no sugar.

Biolayne is all about drinking diet soda. Gonna generalize a bit here and say it applies to all artificial sweeteners. He covers many studies that confirm TrenTrenTren's claims that they don't trigger appetite, don't make you fat, don't give you cancer, and don't fuck with your gut biome.

If you look at the chemicals aspartame breaks down into here How does aspartame affect your body? - , if you eat red meat, eggs, or tomatoes ever you are consuming the same chemicals as aspartame regardless. Just an example of one artificial sweetener, not sure about the others but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the chemicals involved in those are also present in other common foods.

I use the Splenda Naturals Stevia. It's Stevia, but without the "natural flavors" that the actual Stevia brand adds which I think makes it taste very weird.

The answer is simple. Pick your poison.

None of them are good for you. How bad are they, only time will tell.

I use stevia(brand is whole earth mixed with monkfruit or some bs) to sweeten things and drink sugar/sweetener free sparkling water. If i have to drink a soda I'll go for diet. Rather not consume 300 calories that put me on an energy rollercoaster. I've seen orange/grape soda has like 70-80 grams of sugar/corn syrup. Shit is crazy.
