I'm old enough to have purchased Metallica's Kill 'Em All when it was released; and I damn sure did. I still have the original cassette and vinyl. Long time metalhead and ruiner of good guitars for many moons.
My defaults for just get in my M4 and go are FFDP and/or Lamb of God.
However, lately, I have been binging on a band called Feared. I cannot pick just one to drop in here; so I'll start with:
King of the Dead: about 30 seconds in, this thing takes off

As a life long fan of metal and everything that shreds i maintain my stance that this is more like electric diarrhea. No different than rap and just as horrible and unenjoyable. Mindless dribble. Its like a bunch of dudes all got together in a fucking garage and decided to start a fucking band but didnt want to have style or rythm or distinguishable fucking words. So they went full left on the autistic spectrum and just started beating their heads in to the wall till some form of fucking thought came rolling loose from the cob webs that was once a fucking brain. Sorta like a Bieber song just darker and a fucking disgusting fucking neck beard to boot. Embarassing. Next time a fucking band decides to create an album like this i hope they fucking turn on a pantera record and just fucking listen to what REAL metal sounds like. What real craftmanship looks like. What being talented looks like. This is a phase that will soon pass i hope. Kinda like grunge or rap metal. Just flush that disgusting fucking turd down the toilet in to the oblivion of shit that may never surface again. Heres to bargain bin cassettes. Where it fucking belongs.

Mainstream metal is an oxymoron. Its has never been mainstream and never will be main stream. No one gives out participation trophies to bands or sounds that suck or have no redeemable qualities that a group of ppl particularly ppl who are a minority in the music industry anyways find terrible. Eating a shit sandwich is still a shit sandwich even if its relabled as "hardcore". Slayer is and was IMO the farthest a metal head can get that STILL maintains actual qualities of MUSIC. Not indiscernible sounds in to a microphone. Not a bunch of neck beards playing fast, horrible, non melodic shit. Actual fucking songs. This crap isnt music. And it doesnt make some one hardcore. It reflects poor taste or a need/want to be viewed as some thing they are not. Because i think even THEY the listener, knows it sucks. Sorta like a mental masturbation over being seen as some thing MORE hardcore. Lol

As someone who used to literally live in a music studio, who has played drums across NYS, was the MAIN act in a major music festival, opened for signed MAJOR metal bands, and who was asked to join a band signed to a record label who toured across Germany... I can appreciate the extreme technicality and the limit which is pushed by some of these musicians today which "break" the old school mentality of what Metal is. Their technical musical abilities are quite stunning when you can see the complexity of the work they do on their instruments.
To some, it is too extreme to understand. To the casual listener of technical metal or someone who is not a musician themselves, I can understand them feeling lost in the "noise" as the technicality of it all sometimes overwhelms those who don't have a trained ear for the "chaos."
I for one literally feel vomit come up my throat whenever I hear anyone claim Metalica or Pantera sound good. Reminds me of a nursery rhyme with how dull, boring and predictable it all is. And yes, I have actually PLAYED music than most have "listened" to...
