Winstrol in Racehorses

New York regulators Feb. 29 approved a ban on the last anabolic steroid that does not occur naturally in horses but has, until now, been permitted at specific threshold levels.

The New York State Gaming Commission finalized a rule proposed last year to ban a horse from having any amount of stanozolol in its system. The rule wouldn't become effective for six months to give additional time for the steroid to work its way out of horses that were legally given stanozolol prior to the new regulation.

"There is no valid reason to administer this substance to a healthy racehorse, and there are better alternatives that are permitted for horses that are sick or injured," according to the NYSGC analysis of the rule that was printed in late December in the New York State Register.

The new rule, it stated, "will serve to enhance the health and safety of racehorses and the integrity of racing."

New York racing rules governing anabolic steroids allow for the presence of three different endogenous substances, which are those that occur naturally in a horse. Stanozolol has been the last steroid permitted at certain levels "that is neither endogenous to a horse nor already banned by the commission," the agency's document states.

In a recent letter to the NYSGC board, Edmund Burns, the agency's counsel, said stanozolol was initially included as an exception to general anabolic steroid ban "only because of the long clearance time-many months-of this exogenous drug." At the time of the Feb. 10 memo from Burns, the NYSGC had received one letter during a recent public comment period from a veterinarian who said the steroid is "a useful tool in veterinary medicine" if used appropriately.

Burns said the rule change is being done to make New York consistent with national rulemaking proposals.

AFAIK they are legal for "therapeutic purposes" outside of competition as long levels don't exceed a certain threshold on race day.

Testosterone, boldenone and nandrolone are naturally-occurring (endogenous) steroids in horses. Stanozolol was the odd-man out as the only synthetic previously permitted.

I looked at the list of accepted substances and didn't see those. Quite a few others though. Clenbuterol and Albuterol stuck out.

Please post a link to current list. The list could have changed since I last looked.

I can't find the site I was looking at when I first read this article but I think this site is similar, not sure of accuracy.

I thought the idea of the drugs in horse racing were interesting personally... These kinds of discussions don't happen the same way when we talk about other sports.

AAS has its own section (last updated February 2016 - still lists stanozolol as legal] - Section 4043.15:

(a) Anabolic steroids shall not be administered except that the following substances may be administered during permitted time frames and at concentrations that on race day are less than these thresholds:

(1) Boldenone: All horses may have less than 100 pg/ml (including free boldenone and boldenone liberated from its conjugates) in plasma;

(2) Nandrolone:

(i) Female horses and geldings may have less than 100 pg/ml in plasma; and
(ii) Intact male horses may have less than 500 pg/ml in plasma.
(3) Stanozolol (Winstrol): All horses may have less than 100 pg/ml in plasma.

(4) Testosterone:

(i) Female horses and geldings may have less than 100 pg/ml in plasma; and
(ii) Intact male horses may have less than 2,000 pg/ml in plasma.
(5) In addition, no anabolic steroid shall be administered by injection into a joint at any time.

Thanks! That is interesting info. I missed that AAS had its own section.

There's definitely not as much annoying self-righteousness and moralizing.

Tell me how you really feel. ;)

One of my friend have racing dogs, whippets. Prepare dog to race include more like 15 different substances IV or IM app. From steroids, blood builders, recovery products, joint care, breathing helpers.... He said that horses they are take much more stuff like dogs.

So how much of a Test Enanthate need to be injected to reach levels usuable in horses?

How about toher compounsd. Like a hole vial since they are huge? Or just like 1 cc?
