This is very basic, but having a buldging disc with one surgury already I want to remind you guys that keeping your back safe isn't just proper form, and a strong back....

To prevent lower lumbar injuries as a lifter we all MUST strengthen our core!! I know many guys who don't really focus on a strong trunk and it's a recepie for pain!

Keep your core strong and you have the ability to lift heavier safer and you won't rupture an L5 and be outta pocket for 6-9 weeks....

Thanks guys and gals!

I warm up about 5 min or so before workout to get that sweat on then I stretch between sets. Seems to work for me.

And Robb you could not be more right about the core strength. Core days are so tough for me I about puke every time during and after my workouts. I seriously think they will be the end of me lol and the amount of work necessary to get a good core workout in seems to rival any other day, including leg day.

But let me just say that over the last three months I have doubled my core workouts and the result has been a personal best today for bench press (380 which I did today...yeah I know I'm a bitch boy and I suck at bench) also I have bumped up my average squat by 90 lbs (meaning that every rep and every set has an extra set of 45's that were not there earlier this year)

so yeah, avoid injuries...but also increase strength in other areas....core work can be a great plateau buster

peace,

Agreed. Strong core and proper posterior chain flexibility will ensure you wont be slipping any disks soon. What is even more important, though, is proper form. Too many people have fucked up their backs deadlifting with horrid form.
