Neither country requires a warrant to search imported packages and mail. So the Canadian law really only applies to domestic mail.I dont get it, im not trying to get too critical here. But if Canada was able to pass a law allowing carriers to search packages and mail without a warrant to stop the flow of illicit goods getting into the country, what makes you think the US wont? Considering that is one of the key goals of the current administration in the US. Chinese sellers wont even ship to Canada anymore, thats the reality. Why does everyone seem to think nothing will happen with gear getting to the US?
The reason that a similar law wouldn't work in the US is that the US has stronger Constitutional limitations on search and seizure under the 4th Amendment.
Even then, the Canadian law has been found not legal by several Canadian courts.
