xanax

Anyway my one doc has me on Remeron to try and bring the cortisol levels under control long enough for HPA Axis to "re-set",

Remeron puts me to sleep (as does any ssri) but Remeron is particularly bad in this aspect, as well as sexual sides have you had grogginess or loss of libido from the Remeron?

If you can't tell I am not a big fan of SSRI's.

Xanax has a very short half life, making withdrawal hard. heres a table:

Alprazolam 9 - 20
Bromazepam 8 - 30
Chlordiazepoxide 24 - 100
Clonazepam 19 - 60
Clorazepate 1.3 - 120
Diazepam 30 - 200
Estazolam 8 - 24
Flunitrazepam 18 - 26
Flurazepam 40 - 250
Halazepam 30 - 96
Ketazolam 30 - 200
Lorazepam 8 - 24
Lormetazepam 10 - 12
Nitrazepam 15 - 48
Oxazepam 3 - 25
Prazepam 30 - 100
Quazepam 39 - 120
Temazepam 3 - 25
Triazolam 1.5 - 5

Vailum is often used to come off other Benzos as its long half life makes tapering off much easier and limits withdrawal

Everything you need to know about benzos and withdrawal see:

I'm not a Dr and I am not trying to be one in these forums but when you suffer from depression for years as I have you tend to learn as much as you can about it so you can beat it.The incompetency of some of the doctors I have dealt with in regards to depression is mind bending. I think a full hormone panel should be one of the first steps when evaluating a new patient and go from there. In my case SSRI's made me feel worse, tired, unmotivated, and totally uninterested is sex. I was miserable. Their solution was always the same, try another SSRI after a while I had had enough and started to do research, and a lot of it.

Remeron is actually not an SSRI but an NaSSA it's not supposed to have few sexual sides but it did for me. It is so sedating it is often used as a sleep aid.

I too have encountered staggering stupidness from doctors. A good example being the time I told my doc I was using 5-HTP as a natural attempt to improve mood and would this have any bearing on me starting an SSRI.

He said no, I went into serotonin syndrome a couple of hours after taking the SSRI. This was extreme cold and hot flushes with shaking for about 8 hours.

Cab xanax have a negative effect on libido.....My sex drive is almost non-existent....I've been on xanax for about 9 months straight now. I use it for sleep as well.

I'm trying right now actually...I was doing three quarters of a bar every night before bed...now I'm down to a quarter. Definitely sucks....especially not being horny...AT ALL!!

of course it can effect libido. have you tried alternatives? have you tried to get off of xanax?

I want to qualify my answer on libido and xanax. If you are a person who is very anxious about sex, a tiny dose of xanax could help--actually so could a glass of wine! A little inositol would also help raise GABA levels in the brain and help you to enjoy yourself.

i've tried just about everything under the sun for sleep, including temazapam and xanax. the xanax made me kind of blue and dopey the next day. the best thing i've come across so far is 5-htp. 50mg makes me sleep like a baby. as posted earlier, though, if you're taking an SSRI you can't use the 5-htp as it increased seretonin. other natural choices that work fairly well for me are valarian, kava, and melatonin.

I have been playing around with 3mg melatonin for sleep, but find it gives me a great deal of depression the next day. Anyone else have any symptoms similar with melatonin?

It does not make me depressed, but it takes until the early afternoon for me to wake up.

Same here. I have a love/hate relationship w/ melatonin. 300 mcgs. puts me out and I get a really sound sleep, but the next day I'm really groggy.
