How do you time your meals?

At the moment I'm doing about 5 meals spread out through the day with a little protein, carbs and fat before bed.

I've heard of at least one fella who takes in heaps of protein all at once and then doesnt eat for a few hours then does it again.

Got me thinking about variations of eating.

How do you do it?

Will I have heard from a very respected an knowledgeable member that the human body can only process around 50g of protein every 2hrs. Anymore than that an your just pissing it away. I have always stuck to this method of taking in around that amount every 2hrs. Keeping the body constantly digesting protein like this throughout the day is the best way to go imo. I try to get atleast 6 meals a day but then again im not a true mass monster like some. The more you weigh the more you need simple as that. So if your around 250 or more you might want to wake up early an get a head start on packing it down lol:)

I basically time my meals when I'm hungry. Timing is one of the least important factors regarding body composition but can be critically Important to your gym performance. Bottom line is find a schedule that allows you to get in all your required calories and macros while also giving you the best performance in the gym.

Please don't take this the wrong way but whomever told you that is wrong. The human body is more than capable of processing much more protein than that.

That's good to know bro an I'm not taking it wrong at all. Thanks for letting me know btw. After all im still learning the ins an outs myself lol. So do you have any idea what it can actually take in an utilize then? If not then I will simply start researching. Haha guess I should have in the first place:rolleyes::)

Researching is never a bad thing!

There's no limit that you should have to worry about. By that I mean if you eat 100g of orotein in a single meal, your body will slow down the digestion rate to be able to digest and utilize effectively all the protein you ate. I believe it's called the ileal tract located in the small intestine that acts as a braking system for your digestive system. Eat a large meal or a very high protein meal and digestion slows down to allow time to take all the nutrients. Eat a smaller meal or less protein and the rate of digestion speeds up. Here's a good read by one of the most respected ppl in the nutritional field. The guy uses science based evidence to back himself up.

Thanks Doc. I will be looking into this right away. Well now I don't have to worry bout going over a protein limit. Very much appreciated bro an you the man;):)

Im with doc on this, I eat when Im hungry and make adjustments with my training regime.

Right now Im cutting and maintaining so limiting carbs (trying to limit anyways) at night and working out fasted. This affects my strength and endurance in the gym but is relative to my goals. After gym I take in carbs and a protein shake.

The main things for me would be my carbs and working out fasted or not. Basically being in tune and listening to your body. I dont have any research or anything but this works for me and my goals.

Im not gonna buy some guys blog (Chris Mason) over many years of scientific studies , sorry . If science says we can only absorb so much protein in one sitting Im sure they have their reasons to believe so....and the proof.

And remember too, excess protein converts to storage fat just like excess carbs convert to fat . You might think that 500gms of protein you just ate that day is gonna give you 20" arms , in reality you now have a 38" waist...

I eat protein every 3 hours-ish, and fill in the carbs, fat, and calories fit in as it fits with my schedule. Sometimes I go heavier on carbs later in the day, sometimes earlier, but I have around 50-70 grams of protein at least every few hours, and that's my main focus. Unlike carbs and fat, the body has no way of "storing" protein, so I believe its important to keep the uptake high and consistent.

Thats the healthy thing to do and also best for insulin/blood sugar control . I try to eat 5-6 meals a day w/ an average of 30-40gms protein , although some meals might have 60-80gms protein or more . I average 250-300gms protein a day on cycle , dont need no more...

When bulking
I eat every 2 hours. Not a second more. Hungry or not my planned intake WILL go down the hatch. Roughly 4500-6500 cals. Depending on a lean bulk or all out bulk. I bulk lean at 4500 for my 260 ish body weight. All out bulk is more cals that simple. Around 500 g protein daily

When cutting
Every 3 hrs. I like to maintain a slightly hungry feeling. Eat smaller portions. More leafy green shit and no milk if any at all. Cutting has a negative effect on protein consumption but I can manage about 300-380 g protein picking the right low Cal protein sources. Mostly fish and chicken.

If I'm on tren I'll even fast for 5 hours occasionally and let the weight burn off. Worked well on my last serious cut and no cardio at all :D

Whenever I'm hungry.
If I'm at work and forgot to eat I'll try to catch some grub at noon.

I usually eat at 12pm/4pm/8pm

But really only when I'm hungry.

I get hangry if I don't eat often..... hungry/angry.

I do set my alarm clock for 1am so I can down a protein shake mixed with steel cut oats.
