Uncle Z's former U.S. domestic remailer was sentenced to 17 years. But he will only be required to serve 12 years in prison + 3 years home detention + 2 years probation. He could serve as little as 9 years with good behavior.

This is the arrangement David Starkey had with Uncle Z as U.S. domestic remailer:

"In order to get started, UncleZ wired $500 to Starkey so that Starkey could purchase the paraphernalia needed to start manufacturing steroids. Starkey used his wife's credit card to buy the supplies. Uncle Z would then mail him all the anabolic steroids and raw steroid powders.

"According to court documents, Uncle Z mailed all of the product to Starkey and paid him via Western Union based of the number of packages he shipped (remailed). Starkey said Z would pay him $10 per package of vials shipped and $5 per package of pills shipped. Starkey estimated that was pocketing approximately $2000 per week as a domestic remailer.

“'Starkey advised that Z would pay him $10 per package of viles (sic) that he distributed and $5 per package of pills that he would distribute for Z in the U.S. Starkey advised that he assumed that this was illegal but stated that he had no money and no job and he had to do what he had to do,' according to agents involved in the case.

"Starkey apparently never interacted with customers directly nor did he manage any funds received from customers. He was simply provided with pick and pack details along with customer addresses."

So ... he is out on bail August last year being busted with a UGL in his basement, shows the cops how he was making everything, how he was brewing, sending, shipping and so on - all operation - then in January 2015 he is busted again for the same thing ?

That is insane to say the least ! Really! Insanity, he should go with it and get a lower sentence !

It's still unfortunate. It's unlikely he could afford a decent attorney if he and his wife were really in desperate financial straits. They were only making $2000 per week as sole source of income. That doesn't go far for a rainy day fund for legal expenses. I don't think justice system should penalize the poor/stupid and reward the wealthy/smart.

I don't think the poor/stupid should be penalized either but he gets no sympathy from me. Uncle Z was a selective scammer at best after making his comeback not long ago. Many of his customers ended up being scammed out of their money.

I didn't realize we were talking about Uncle Z. The remailer wasn't Uncle Z - he was the guy at the bottom of the totem pole. You can certainly hold everyone in the organization responsible for any crimes committed.

I just don't think the guy who sold me a VW should face the same $10 billion in fines/penalties and criminal charges as the executives/company who orchestrated the emissions fraud. Do you?

No, your salesman shouldn't face the same fines and penalties as the manufacturer unless they knowingly sold you a faulty car.
