Why are good chests Rare?

I do dips and decline bench because i don't have lower definition (I'm very lean and not at all fat just trash genes). Don't worry about decline bench just finish your chest day with dips.
Yeah I always do dips, one of my favourite chest exercises

Guys are more concerned about pushing pounds than feeling the weight through every rep. I started watching some Phil Heath vids and he's all about the feel rather then pushing mega pounds.

Exceptional chests are rare because there is a big genetic component. Some people natural have a lot of room for growth there and capitalize on it. Arnold is a great example.

As others said its about form and mind musle connection. I see a lot of people in my gym doing a 5x5 routine with no chest. Leave your ego at the door and lower the weight. Keep reps around 10-12 and feel the contraction.

Lots of different opinions on this topic. From my own experience the best thing for a big chest is lots of heavy flat benching.

Just look at any powerlifter that competes in bench press that are pressing. The guys moving a lot of weight have thick and wide chests. This is their primary movement. Just like squats are the best mass builder for legs, flat barbell bench press is the best for chest.

I see a lot of people do 10-12 reps with no chests also. It's mostly genetics. Some people can do 5x5 and get a big chest, some can't. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa.

I think most Body builders or aspiring BB's don't know how to lift properly. They just lift. They don't think about the stretch or the contraction of the lift, nor do they concentrate on those aspects. Some people do not have the genetics for a big full chest, but those who do and don't have "that" chest most likely are not lifting properly.

Chest aesthetics is very gene based, luckily i am very lucky about it. But still, i believe that if you are working harder than me, you will eventually have a better chest than me. Just go smith that iron like a dwarf blacksmith.

My chest has always been my best feature. No doubt. Even all natural it was awesome from age 16/17 to the present. When I was in HS I would just lift 3 X a week, like M, W, F doing a basic set of reps ED and I was getting great natural gains with definition on my chest by that age. It was so easy back then ::sigh::

After a cut that chest could look alright.
I mean he doesn't have very wide shoulders but decent considering he doesn't lift.
High test levels maybe?

I realize this thread is getting a bit old but I forgot to mention. AN exercise that will really enhance a chest look id doing dumbbell pullovers. This movement done correctly can expand your rib cage. Works best for the younger athlete.

When a guy has an expanded rib cage the chest will loo much bigger. When in cloths all you can really see is the size and not the muscle itself. Hence a just ordinary chest will look much bigger it the rib cage is expanded.

This a favored by many old school BB'ers

For myself, I go pretty hard on the incline. I love to super set the incline bench with incline dumbbell. Love the cable cross overs. Love the dumbbell flies. IT TAKES TIME. I've been fortunate to have been gifted with both a wide and thick chest; that and forearms are the family gene lol. This whole Phil Heath feel fiasco is on point. Much better to feel the weight, rather than focus on how quick you're going to start to push back up after the fall.

Yepper that's the ticket man ..you got it ... Decline is only for the cut n square defined line. The size of the defined chest is the mid and upper thickness which will tie into the shoulder . This is accomplished by getting thickness at the mid chest and upper ...... if not done will continue a flat spot below the collar bone area.... :)
