Here is a great video on the theory of barefoot running

dude back in the day won the Boston marathon without shoes. he was from the Amazon I think. they pulled him out of the jungle and cut him loose on roads. he killed it.

not that sure of the rest of his history, it's been like 20 years since I've read that story.

this is real, no Rosie Ruiz shit

There was a sport scientist in the video that tested the theory how the with shoes we are heel strikers and without shoe it more mid foot decreasing the impact from running. Those natives can run for hundreds of miles at a time. The record in that village is about 454 miles in just under 48 hours. That is crazy bro.

abebe bikila. Ethiopians go figure lol
Ethiopians can run. It all boils down to modern technology making us lazier than our ancestors. Humans are not built for sedentary lifestyle.

I have seen the effects of going from being physically active to a sedentary lifestyle in many of our veterans. Once they retire our live service they become sedentary. And eventually develop many illnesses due to being sedentary and of course poor diet. They eventual have died at an early age.

There are other variables as well.

This is a great video and explains a few things on how the running in shoes effects us negatively.

I have always run on my forefoot. I never heelstrike. I thought that was a disadvantage. That is interesting. I used to run 60-70 miles per week. I just don't have the time anymore. I do cardio after I lift and run outdoors whenever I have the chance

I ran so much in the army. I averaged 100+ miles a week. Now I barely run. But my wife and I will be moving into a new house this April. Just waiting for it to be finished with the build. The neighborhood is really good to run in and plenty of hills. I will get back to running more often.

Just don't overdo it. Don't run everyday at first. Listen to your body or you'll injure yourself. I fucked my ankle up by just pushing through pain

Very true. I am a hard charger, but as I have gotten older I have learned to listen to my body.

When I was in service, if I had anytime off from running. My first workout I would go full tilt running until I threw up. I did that often. I felt horrible that first day, but the next day I felt like great. I have learned that mind over matter can accomplish anything.

I have walked 20,40,60,80 and 100+ miles with a 75lb to 120lbs rucksack?backpack. And the first thing to go is the mind. If you can get past that barrier many things can be accpmlished. The term we used to use was just put on "foot in front" of the other. Don't think about all the miles ahead.

Its a cool video. I do incline walking on the treadmill after weights, and man I can't find a pair of shoes that don't destroy my heels...its fucked up.

LOL!!! It was. I am surprised no one said anything while it was played in class.

I've watched a few doc's on him. I used to think he was alright, he's NOT!!

We are so accustomed to walking running and heal striking which isn't good for us. Especially those of that bulk up beyond what is considered healthy in medical litetsture, eventhough we carry more muscle.

I thought that was him lol
I won't judge him. I would have alright with Lance Armstrong, if he had come clean once he was busted instead of lying more. That proved to me he has no integrity. Just my opinion based of my belief system.

Sorry, but I'll keep my shoes! With today's technology-why revert back to running barefoot.. It's like why drive a car or take an airplane.. just run.. no thanks!

As for LA- he's an douche!

To each his own. From the video of you will see that running barefoot creates less force from impact to the body than running with shoes with support. Now if you have bad feet than I can agree. I used vibram 5 fingers when I was in service to run. And definitely felt better once you change your gait. Most people tend to over reach when running. Forcing the feet to strike heel first instead of striking with the forefoot first. Much more stress on the body being a heel striker.
