It took less than a few minutes for both my wife and I.
$250 to us versus Equifax – no brainer.

Everyone: go get your check from Equifax!

$125 is a nice chunk of change.

Get that money and pay off a bill, sock it away, take a day off, treat yourself, whatever you’d like - but cash that check!

Done.

I didn't need the credit monitoring as I have it thru my bank not to mention I check every one of my bank and credit card statements often online.

Did you get a confirmation email or anything aside from the confirmation number the website gives you after you did this?
I opened the link through FTC.gov’s website to make sure it would be safe but I still feel like I’m gonna have my identity stolen after doing this. Has anyone done this and got their check or prepaid credit card yet?

No didn't get a confirmation email but saved the claim # in case I have to inquire on status.

Is this shit safe to put your name and last four digits of ss? Serious question... I don't trust much on the Internet.

I did this via the FTC.gov website and and double checked URL and even used a scanner to check if the site was some attack site but it was clean.

From what I have read the $125 is not a guarantee. That if all 147 million people that were affected made the claim the average payout would be like $2. I did it regardless.

I was just about to say this. The pot is $31million. With each person able to get $125. If more than 240,000 of the 148million effected people make a claim then it’s no longer $125, it’s $31million divides by the number of claims.

On top of that, in order to get the money you have to have been signed up for a credit monitoring service and prove you’ll continue to maintain that service for the next 6 months.

Or you can elect for something like 10 years of free credit monitoring which is worth much more than $125. Basically, all sources point to taking the free credit monitoring service and not the money.

Boooo!

Equifax data breach: Pick free credit monitoring

FTC: "But there’s a downside to this unexpected number of claims. First, though, the good: all 147 million people can ask for and get free credit monitoring. There’s also the option for people who certify that they already have credit monitoring to claim up to $125 instead. But the pot of money that pays for that part of the settlement is $31 million. A large number of claims for cash instead of credit monitoring means only one thing: each person who takes the money option will wind up only getting a small amount of money. Nowhere near the $125 they could have gotten if there hadn’t been such an enormous number of claims filed."

None of it matters until they've made the official ruling later this year.

Approval Hearing (7) An approval hearing shall take place before the Court on December 19, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Courtroom 2108 of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, located at the Richard B. Russell Federal Building and United States Courthouse, 75 Ted Turner Drive, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30303- 3309 to determine whether: (a) the proposed settlement class should be certified for settlement purposes pursuant to Rule 23; (b) the settlement should be approved as fair, reasonable, and adequate and, in accordance with the settlement's terms, this matter should be dismissed with prejudice; ( c) class counsel's application for attorneys' fees and expenses should be approved; and (d) the application for the class representatives to receive service awards should be approved. Any other matters the Court deems necessary and appropriate will also be heard.

Thanks Doc Scally, I don't get to claim any cash but it was nice to know my data was not compromised.

I was affected and filled out the form. I'll advise if I ever get a check. I already have credit monitoring from another data breach :(
