2014. I need a house and vehicles. I have a couple of nice bicycles and a couple nice watches(gifts) but that's the extent of it.
Ah nice! 2014, why not get something from 2000 instead? Seems like you can get better value with something older?

Why not buy something from 1960 and pour 20k-40k into repair and modernization to make it drivable on a daily basis and safe for family?

Long as it turns over, right?

I bought a 2000 Corolla for $1500 and drove it for 7 years. Loved that thing.

I don't agree with buying something from 1960, but why not from 2000? The cars in 2000 were safe for families? I don't remember there being an outrageous amounts of deaths?? Or are you justifying it for yourself?:)

Nope.

Average vehicle does 10k a year, so how many miles does the average chassis fru om 2000 have on it in 2019?

How many owners?

How regularly has it been serviced - breaks, suspension, powertrain? How much rot are you looking at under the hood and body, how many fuel lines, break lines, vacuum lines are junk?

Just replacing ball joints and bearings will run you about 2K over purchase if you're not mechanically inclined or equipped to replace them yourself. This, by the way, is an area that is almost ALWAYS neglected by vehicle owners.

Depending on the tire size, you could be looking at 14-1500 over purchase price to replace.

I'm not even getting into cost for overheads or potential powertrain repairs or replacement.

And that's an AVERAGE vehicle, middle of the road. It's not about form, it's about function and reliability.

I'm not saying go out and buy something new. But buying something with 200K miles, unless you're spending $500 or less is fucking retarded.

Only exception would, potentially, be a vehicle with a diesel powerplant as they're inherently longer lasting. But you still have chassis, trans, and suspension issues to consider. I still wouldn't go over 5K unless full service history could be provided.

I am not saying to buy something with 200k miles either. You obviously know a something about cars. What should a person shop for when trying to get value and still the modern safety and performance?

Has to be reliable and 4wd. I drive 50mi each way to work with about 10 of it offroad.

Aww... that’s only because you choose to project yourself as a rugged man. If you just quit that job, slip on a skirt and heals and take a job in the bright lights big city then that 2000 Corolla would be just fine.

Tell us, what did your parents do that causes you to feel this need to project such masculinity to the world.

Did I do it right?

Of course you love it. You are representing yourself with your ink on your body. You are projecting the image you feel and want to be on your body. And all that ink and the pain from getting it is therapy for you. It isn't a healthy thing to love your ink. You need to love yourself.

The beauty is that you are expressing your emotions through your work. You need to learn how to do it with your heart and soul. Am sure there are a couple pieces that are especially important to you as they correlate to an important life event.

No not at all! You are saying something with your work, I can interpret it correctly or incorrectly. You agree with that? That your passion bleeds through your work right?

I know you can definitely interpret it incorrectly.

There's nothing negative, in my mind, to going out sans regret. Again, you've completely missed the point.

Which is, again, why I point out that I do shit for myself. Not others.

You might also want to stop making so many assumptions. I've yet to find anything I've done painful, I've slept through the majority of the work I've had done.

Damn it! I am rugged! Stop being sooo mean....:)

In 2019, that's the average vehicle manufactured in 2000. So you kind of did.

Literally.

Vehicle choice depends on application. Do you need to handle extreme weather, potentially including heavy snow and flooding? Do you need to be able to take the vehicle off road?

Then drive type and ground clearance need to be considered.

Is it strictly a vehicle that you'reusing yourself? Because a Tradesman can be had used with 70-110k on it for around 9-14K.

Do you need to be able to transport kids? A Quad is going to run you more, as you're looking at a different set if standard options as well. Truck with around 100-120k will run you 10-18k.

Will your partner or child be using the vehicle and are they comfortable driving a full size? Familiarity and comfort level factor into driver and passenger safety heavily. So maybe the truck us out all together. But weather and terrain are still determining factors. Now you're in the SUV market, and prices can be all over depending on brands and standard packages.

Is ground clearance not an issue for the wife because she works in town, but she still needs to be able to handle shit roadways? You might look into AWD vehicles, and they have their place. But what's the long term cost of ownership if the AWD system fails?

I can tell you one thing, repairs are MUCH more expensive than a straight 4WD system. Fuel economy is typically worse as well, as its AWD all the time.

It's not as cut and dry as buy something cheap to go to work.

Halloween is the perfect holiday for projecting self images.

Let your child choose whatever costume they want.

Red flags include anything negative. Being a villain, robber, something mean or negative. They are projecting!
