What about Blood Meridian by McCarthy? I was in jail and was talking to the only person I ever met who read "Infinite Jest". He gave me Blood Meridian and I loved it even more than the road, he's one of those guys who uses such old time-y words to describe shrubbery and such it can be hard to read.

My girlfriend and I just finished season one of Castle Rock on Hulu. It's based on the works of Stephen King and it's definitely worth watching. I really enjoy shows that are hard to figure out. Had quite a few theories about what was going on over the course of the season.

@jaymaximus did you see this? I saw it posted in a Dark Tower Facebook group yesterday. Pretty disappointed.

I hadn't, but I'm not that upset. After that movie I had no faith in anything they do. Maybe in a few years someone will try again.

I don't have any faith after the movie either, I just wanted them to redeem themselves with an awesome series. Maybe in a few years like you said. Fingers still crossed for Wheel of Time.

Dont read The Road. Awesome book, dude can paint a Rembrandt with words but its fuckin dark. Shit gave me insomnia till I finished it:(. Movie didn't even come close.

I wish I had read the book first. I thought the movie was really good. Then a few months ago I read the book. It was even better, but I kept picturing Viggo Mortensen the whole time :(

Just started the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson on Audible today. Good so far.
Dude I’ve been waiting so damn long for the next book in Stormlight Archives. I’m gonna give these a shot... haven’t read The Wheel Of Time series either, so I might get on that as well.

any other recommendations? Still waiting on book 3 from The King Killer Chronicles, and hve to finish up the last 2 from The Demon Cycle.

Right, it's taken ten years for three books. We're gonna be getting a senior discount by the time Stormlight finishes. I listened to about ten hours of Mistborn today while I was driving. Sanderson creates some pretty unique worlds as I'm sure you know and it's no different here. Does kinda remind me of the magic system in Warbreaker, which is in the same universe as Stormlight Archive exists in. So definitely check out Warbreaker if you haven't already.

The Dark Tower is for sure worth reading. I'm on my fourth time through the series currently listening to the audiobooks when my girlfriend and I travel.

Wheel of Time is great too. It starts out slow and it's slow at times, but it's a great story and it's worth reading. It's a huge commitment of time.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher is good if you're looking for fast paced, shorter books. The Fourth Realm Trilogy by John Twelve Hawks is good too and a pretty fast read. It's about ever increasing surveillance on people. It's about 15-20 years old now, but it's scary the stuff in it. Dresden Files is kind of like an adult Harry Potter. Main character is a wizard in modern day Chicago. Really action packed.

What’s up bro. Been a while since we talked in here. Hope you’re doing well. I’m surprised you’re just getting to this. This was the first series I read after the wheel of time. It’s pretty good. Definitely not WOT lol but probably isn’t much out there to compare it to. The dark tower and game of thrones are the WOT of there genre. Been in a reading slump for a while. I don’t know about you but I’ve been reading so long now on my phone and ereader that I think it’s taken something away from reading. My girl and I were at B&N looking at books and I couldn’t bring myself to spend 30$ on the Institute by Stephen King but holding a real book with pages made me wonder if that’s part of my problem. Without having a real book it’s like your not really taking a break from the digital shit. If that makes sense.

I've been meaning to get around to Mistborn for years. Now that I've started it I'll probably have to tear through it pretty quickly. So far it's got me interested.

The last real book I read was the third Stormlight book. My girlfriend is more a TV watcher and with the constant driving I do audiobooks have been more convenient. I'd been in kind of a slump for a few years now. Used to read a lot more.

I'm in a Dark Tower Facebook group and people in it have been saying The Institute is really good. A lot of his newer stuff I haven't been crazy about.

Yeah I been reading the detective series one right now. I’m on the second one and it’s not really doing it for me. I may just bite the bullet and by the hardcover institute just so I can read a real book that’s good too. Maybe that will help.

Which detective series one?

At this point I'd buy the sixth GoT book in hardcover if it ever comes out. And the next Stormlight Archive book. I still hit up used book stores quite often to fuel my book hoarding addiction, but the last few years they just pile up and don't get read.

Currently reading/listening to Starsight from Sanderson's Skyward series. Mistborn and Reckoners series are a must! Really enjoy Sanderson's books.

The Bill Hodges detective series. It’s Stephen King. The first book was mr. Mercedes. The second is finders keepers. They are ok. Nothing super natural. It’s ok nothing special. I need like a true King book or like you said the the GOT book. I’ve really been debating for a long time to read WOT again. That’s a huge commitment though lol.

I’ve got that queued up next—about halfway through the Kingkiller 1st book “The Name of the Wind” by Rothfuss and it’s an incredible audio book. Easily one of the best produced audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. Highly recommended.
You’re going to be sorely disappointed after book 2... we’ve been waiting years for a third lol. Amazing series though.

Man I hate that—it’s the worst. Is there a great series out there that actually finishes or at least doesn’t leave you on a cliffhanger? :)

Any of you guys have any recommendations for a crime series/ character? I have been through all the Harry Bosch stories by Michel Connolly as well as the Jack reacher stories by Lee child. Looking for another character with some numbers behind them. Getting sick of having to wait for the next books to come out
