Sodium intake?

Realized I didn’t answer your question really. I’m pretty sure the 1:2 ratio is just general health and diet guidelines by the FDA, CDC etc
Yes i did alot of reading. So far a 1:1 ratio was apparent in the articles.
Thank you for your answers.

do you use the same amount of salt and potassium from a bulk vs a cut?

i know you said a couple weeks out from a show you did a certain protocol.

No problem dude

To clarify- I cut weight because I fight professionally, so this isn’t for aesthetics it’s for a weigh-in. Salt manipulation isn’t something I worry about most of the time, I just have to make sure I eat enough because I sweat a lot.

Bulking and cutting is as hunger and dehydration dictates. Cutting will likely have less sodium just because you’re eating a smaller volume of food.

So on a normal timeframe how much sodium do you supplement with? Do you track it. This is my last question lol. I really appreciate the info.
Edit i actually just realized tou said you dont worry about it most of the time.

Haha you’re good dude. If I had to guess I’m probably anywhere from 4-6000 mg sodium a day. I also drink 1.5-2 gallons of water a day, but that’s because I do 2 workouts a day; lifting in the morning and training mma at night so I lose a lot of fluid

Awesome. Thanks. This helps alot.

dam you are active! Will have to up my water myself.

4 says with increased sodium and 3 days into increased potassium. Maybe my BP is a little higher but not much so far. Doing 1.5 tsp of each. . 5 teaspoon 3 x a day. Will see how it is in a week or two.

How do you guys change your water and sodium intake from training to no training days?

have you considered getting potassium from food? I notice a difference in supplements vs more bioavailable electrolytes

With the food i eat i probably do already get alot. But would never be able to equal the amount that i get this way. Baby steps.

Still using the sodium and potassium.

salt 1.5 tsp total through day
Potassium 1.5 tsp through day
Drinking 144 ounces water using this amount.

i do feel a difference. What ever that is.
This is feelz, but an increase muscle fullness it seems.

What do you use for potassium? I saw you commented about researching salt substitute... is that what you're using?

I looked at some salt substitute at the grocery. Potassium chloride (I think) was the first ingredient... then there were a few other ingredients. Im just curious how much potassium you get from, say, 1tsp of salt substitute, if its a nearly 1:1 ratio or maybe more like 1:2 due to addition of other ingredients. This is probably way into the weeds on this, but it's how I think lol.

Thank you for the updates.

Also, how many mgs of sodium and potassium does this dosing give you?

1.5 tsp=3180 mg sodium, 1/4 tsp is 530 mg sodium

1.5 tsp =4100 mg potassium, 1/4 tsp is 690 mg potassium.

i am taking “no salt” a potassium chloride, it does have 2-3 more ingredients too.

These amounts are in addition to sodium taken in through your diet? Or are these the amounts you strive to hit at the top end daily?

I'm going trial a set up like this. I dont take in too terribly much sodium I dont believe. Honestly I've never tracked it. But I use pre-made chicken seasoning and some pre-made sauces in small amounts to give my otherwise very bland, low sodium chicken and brown rice and veggies variety. Other than that, not much sodium. I've actually experience quad cramps the last week or two, hence one reason my interest in trying this.

I'm not a person that likes overly salty foods. I see people salt food that I would never ever thing of salting. So im thinking about ordering some empty capsules, and managing sodium and potassium that way.
