CDA Section 230 is the best thing the government did to promote free speech on the internet.

I don't understand why you think it is a bad thing for free speech.

CDA Section 230 allows the owners of social media companies, including forums and messaging apps, to avoid liability for the content posted by the users of their services. Otherwise, the owners would be forced to aggressively censor user content for constant fear of being sued.

Repealing Section 230 represents a dangerous threat to online free speech:

Section 230 is only useful if you don't use your media platform as a publisher, which is specific in the law. It was written to safeguard platforms, which have since become publishers. 230 doesn't cover them in this occurrence.

"No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider"

actively picking and choosing what is allowed on your media network when it is legally covered under 1A makes you a publisher. There is no middle ground in that assessment. If there was no concerted effort to stifle free speech (specifically conservative and/or western values in this case) I would not have a problem. I by and large agree with 230 but it needs to be adhered to which it isn't.

I really can't see it any other way at this time

"Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, and commercial speech such as advertising."

Regarding GAB, they post everything except "illegal activities, threats of violence, doxxing, porn, child exploitation and spam". All of those are off the rails when we talk about free speech with the possible exception of porn (and spam I think, but that's fucking sooo annoying). While some may believe porn is free speech, you can't legally just start fucking your wife at the local bus stop. That's illegal. Imo, and in the eyes of most conservatives, that makes it something other than free speech.

I was under the impression GAB owned all it's gear. Top down. I believe it's advertised as that by the owner and support staff. I know GAB flaunts publicly that they can't be removed from the internet. I suppose anything is always possible. I'm going to hound GAB for an answer.

One thing that is painfully obvious is SM platforms colluding with liberal politics. Everything Biden... his entire existence is a farce. He is one of the most overtly racist people in politics. He is guilty of so many financial crimes and he at the very least regarding crimes against humanity is harboring a horrendous criminal in Hunter. I personally believe there is enough pedo evidence to justify beating Joe's head into a pile of goo, nevermind his son. Those videos are literally some of the worst things I've ever seen. Hunter and his little friend, Paul Pelosi (yes folks, Nancy's son) are subhuman. All social media and press outlets have seen these pedo tapes and know about Joe's ties to illegal money. They've all not reported it. They didn't report it because "orange man bad". They didn't report it because of collusion.

Project Veritas has done good work digging through the liberal slop. More info comes out weekly. There are other groups digging but O'Keefe has had the most success from what I've read. I suggest people become familiar with PV and associates. I'll dig up some stuff that's floating around in the non censored SM sites to post here. You want to see the content first? Tbh, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to see them first. Hosting some of these videos makes you a target to extremists on the left.

media and liberal politicians love the idea of ending free speech.... Medusa has many snakes on her head. It's all the same entity in current time, to me and every other conservative anyway. In America today, we are witnessing what Europe saw in the early 20th century. Why cut a man's tongue out? It's not because he's wrong....

You are an adorable little person. Hopefully things in your life turn around so you are not so unhappy.
You should see me when I'm actually upset. Be glad you're not mindless, too. My issue with you is your inability to think laterally. Life is much more grey than your posts indicate and you seem like there might be some intelligence to you. That makes me think you replies are purposefully ignorant and black/white. When you decide to not act like a bot I will stop considering you a cock sucker.

A country that has more gun shops then schools is a fucked up country. Go have a look at gun statistics in America and compare it to the rest of the world.

USA you are fucked up! Your constitution was written hundred years ago during the farwest, it's not the farwest anymore. Imagine living in a country where any average retard can own a gun and usually own multiple guns... Scary as fuck.

Oh noes they are attacking my constitutional right... Ahaha YOU HAVE MORE GUN SHOPS THE SCHOOL! 2021 and you still believe a gun is more important then education! Wake the fuck up
Country has more booze stores and cigarette stores to, and many more killed by them each year than guns. (Well, except the thousands of Chicago, Balty and similar gangster related shootings each year) so a bit of a invalid argument. Education is important, though the schools are purely libtarded and pushing a horrible agenda onto kids these days. (White guilt, trannies, etc) should have nothing to do w/ schools, yet they push it like crazy. I know no-one who claims the above (in bold). I live in the most open gun friendly state in the country (NH) with the least crime and killings. Its the people and states that have the most strict laws (and of course most ghetto areas). Just remember, black lives matter.

We dont have 20 in a year in our whole state, this place has 20 a weekend. Yeah, must be the guns, the criminals using them have nada to do with it, the poor things... Did I mention this state (NH) is 95% White?

@Sampei

Did you see what just happened with MB and myself? That's called an open exchange of information. Facts had been discussed. Feelings had been discussed. We both know our position on the subject and are discussing it. I love the debate from anti gun folks but bring something more substantial next time bud. I'm always willing to discuss guns with you. When you're presented facts in place of rhetoric I guarantee you your mind will change if you're being honest. Even if you don't publicly admit it...

I also value the fuck out of MB take on this topic considering his position. Appreciate the convo and replies

Good thread @ickyrica

I've just joined gab this morning and have immediately seen some familiar faces...Paul Joseph Watson, who used to work for infowars and now has Summit news that he is running himself. He, along with many other conservative voices, were banned from Facistbook a year or two ago.

I hope this platform continues to thrive and improve, because fb has become nearly useless. I used to use FB to speak a bit about 2nd amendment issues mostly, and I used to get a pretty large response to most of my posts. I realized years ago, before it was common knowledge that they shadow banned folks they didn't agree with, that I was being censored. My posts went from many reactions, both good and bad, to nearly no reactions, even when I responded on local media news articles that received a lot of traffic. It was quite obvious when my shadow ban went into effect. Also, was quite obvious they didn't like what I wanted to see on my timeline and changed that as well.

These large social media platforms control the narrative to the best of their abilities and even though they are privately ran businesses, they are taking away people's voices whom they don't agree with and silencing users opinions that they don't agree with to enact political change.

All the bs talk about Russian collusion, when Facistbook has been actively censoring their users and shaping minds and opinions via what they decide to let show up on your news feed, is pretty fucking ironic.

@Millard
I appreciate the hell out of your site. I know you and I don't agree on many politics, but you have still chosen to take the high road and allow discourse that you don't necessarily agree with to take place.

For me, meso has basically replaced fb, other than communicating with old friends. I got tired of being banned for my opinions and my sometimes dark sense of humor as well as being berated by liberal idiots while trying to debate issues, only to be banned for some bs when the conversation doesn't go the way they expected.

FB could take some notes from your playbook and it would be a lot better place to hang out. Thanks for giving all of us this awesome platform, brother.

, but you have still chosen to take the high road and allow discourse that you don't necessarily agree with to take place
You can never cross the bridge once it's been burned down. My hats off to anyone who allows themselves to participate in civil discourse with those with opposing views. As with most things, there is usually a middle ground.

When the middle ground is forcefully removed and all that's left is oppression... green means go...

I understand this argument well i.e. media platforms MUST allow ALL 1st-amendment protected speech otherwise they lose the liability protection.

I am not aware of any media platform that does this. They all restrict some types of 1st-amendment speech in one form or another, some more than others. Yet, they all operate under the presumption of section 230 protections.

It seems that the more highly "moderated" a platform, the more likely they are to encounter problems. Still, I don't think the courts have yet found any such platforms liable for content.

I would like to see more decisions on this matter. Courts may ultimately validate the argument. Even so, there would be no reason to repeal section 230 as both Democrats and Republicans have proposed.

Putting legal issues aside, I don't necessarily have a problem with privately-owned companies deciding what kind of content there platforms will host in their terms of service as long as long as it is not the government restricting their first amendment rights.

If big tech does a repeat with Gab like it did with Parler, I would find that far more troubling. There's the free speech issue and there is the collusion/monopoly issue too. If AWS is going to shut off Parler for violating their TOS while ignoring similar or arguably greater violations by Facebook, Twitter, etc., that seems far more legally problematic. (A big legal issue, a big free speech issue but not a 1st amendment issue.)

I also value the fuck out of MB take on this topic considering his position. Appreciate the convo and replies
Thanks! Based on our past discussions, you are someone I know I can talk to about such issues because the respect is mutual. I don't care how much we may disagree on something. If I walk away with a better understanding of your position, that is cool.

I also get along well with @Sampei. He's a cool dude too. Now if only you guys could play nice !

Thanks! I try. I enjoy a diversity of opinions. And I think the forum reflects that.

I would still prefer to see more civility and fewer personal attacks. Yet I don't want to stifle discussions by banning members for every insult.

Of course, this doesn't mean I will roll over for those who relentlessly troll other members with unprovoked abusive personal attacks. I have always drawn a firm line at violence, promoting and threatening violence against other members. And, I guess as a sign of the times, I've expanded this to include promoting and threatening violence against political figures.

The book is called THE AMERIGUNS
(Ameritards it could be another good name for it)
Go buy it, I know for many of you it will be the first book you spend money on but I assure you it will please both side of the party one will jeez on the collection of guns and the other will be horrified by it.

My statement of 100 hundred years was of course just a random number thrown there to symbolise that it was a long fucking time ago, I'm sorry you evil genius took it by the letter and made a big fucking case out of it.

If you as USA citizens can't srsly accept that there is something wrong with all the weapon sold in your country and the effect that it has on the population etc. I don't think we have much to talk about. I never heard of mass shooting in UK, did you? Hey do you know that in UK normal policeman don't have a firearm by their side? Yeah police goes around with no guns on them amazing isn't it? In your country baby toddler have machine gun but it's all good right? Never enough?

There has been mass shootings in europe. A certain concert in paris rings a bell...also. gotta love the big rig running over people on the bridge over there. Such a peaceful place...

Also, it's apples to oranges comparing europe to america. We have a history vested in gun ownership and won our freedom from the Brits so long ago because we didn't choose to set our weapons down when they chose to lean too hard.

You would be better comparing numbers per capita or maybe countries in europe vs states in america because the population of people would be much closer state vs country. If you don't include a few of the progressive strongholds that have the strictest gun control and subsequently the most gun violence, America is on par with the rest of world or more towards the middle when it comes to gun violence, even with the large numbers owned.

Guns prevent many more deaths than lives taken on daily basis. If the answer to a bad guy with a gun wasn't a good guy with a gun, then we wouldn't call the cops, who will show up with guns, to handle the situation.

I personally live in the mountains, roughly 30 minutes from the nearest police station. If I have some sick mother fucker trying to kick in my door and do bad things, I don't have that kind of time to wait around for them to show up. I have kids and a wife to worry about. Many times every day in this a country, a gun is used to keep bad situations from becoming much worse. Only crazy criminals with death wishes want to be shot. Most just want a quick, easy come up, and given the choice, will almost always choose to go after an unarmed target.

And riddle me this...if our government could somehow convince the law abiding population to disarm, how to you propose to get the guns away from the criminals and those who choose to keep their property and become criminals in the government's eyes?

The answer is, it will take a whole shitload of guns and gun violence on a level you have never seen to make that a reality. Our government knows this and that is a good thing. Joe Biden can say whatever the fuck he wants...he's going to have to send young men door to door in order to enforce that and when a few grapes get popped, people are going to have to think long and hard if they really want to go down that road.

As Millard said Section 230 is something that's needed by companies online or they'd be held liable for half the wack jobs that post stuff on their platform. Which I found quite elucidating that Trump wanted to fight against 230 when it was a huge reason why he could bloviate on Twitter and say whatever came across his mind.

I agree that Twitter and other social media platforms have either overstepped their bounds or in the case of Facebook been a tool for just pure garbage. But people confuse 1A/freedom of speech without realizing that doesn't provide you with freedom from consequences. Some of the shit said on Parler was downright insane and would get you a knock on your door by the USSS easily, you had people calling for open mass murder of neighbors/politicians etc. because they disagreed with them.

You have every right to free speech but don't expect freedom from consequences when you start down that road. Some of the posts that are archived are downright sickening on Parler and I can see why AWS dumpstered their ass for not controlling the worst of the worst on their platform. Parler also has zero leg to stand on with whatever lawsuits they attempt to bring against their cloud hosting services, it's such an open shut case of breach of TOS.

@ickyrica yeah go look at the archived Parler posts when you list what GAB doesn't allow, its like an FBI honeypot wet dream with what people openly posted on there along with verifying their phone number and accounts....

AFAIK GAB does not rent or utilize cloud services such as AWS/Azure for this specific reason, they spin up their own in hand, physical servers to isolate themselves from being shut down. But I think even Gab has limits to "freedom of speech".

PS. Anyone who has to result to "you stink of faggot" as a rebuttal is a mongoloid who can't get a proper point across. It's not the 90s where everyone throws faggot around like some casual insult unless you're a redneck piece of shit.

Are you in the UK? I ask only because you use that as an example. Yes, of course I have heard of a mass shooting in the UK, but, more importantly, you are overlooking some important facts.

There were low murders in the UK before there were any gun control laws whatsoever. Even into the early twentieth century the English had no gun control. The criminally insane could purchase a pistol and carry it around in their pocket. And guess what? Murders were extremely low in England at that time.

England adopted gun laws not for "crime," but for population control, the same reason they started adopting socialist planning around the same time. It was to prevent a revolution in England. You really need to study history a little better.

Do you really think the "number" of guns is an issue? Or the type?

Norway has high gun ownership.

Switzerland requires males between certain ages (18-34) to keep a machine gun at home (not a semi-automatic, but an actual fully automatic assault rifle, the SG 550). Target shooting is very popular there, and it is done with military rifles and pistols. There are 3.4 million guns in a small country of 8 million people.

Murders in Norway and Switzerland are also low.

Indeed, there are more murders with fists and feet in the US than all of the murders in the UK.

If you can dispassionately take a look at demographics, you can see some things that might make you uncomfortable. Black males account for a disproportionately huge number of murders in the U.S. If you take them out of the equation, you discover that the US does not have a very high murder rate at all.

I remember a study done by the CDC here in the US. You can probably still find it. It was called a Tale of Two Cities. It compared Seattle in the US to Vancouver in Canada and concluded that Canada's gun control resulted in lower murder rates. Others took the data, however, and pointed out that Seattle's higher percentage of black population drove the numbers. When it came to comparing whites to whites in both cities, Vancouver's murder rate was higher, meaning it was not the gun control laws at all.

Persons sometimes see only what they want to see.

Vermont - no license required to carry a pistol openly or concealed (indeed, Vermont is the only state that has never required a license to do so). Yet the murder rate is usually around 1.8. They had 10 murders in all of 2018 (I do not know how many were committed with guns).

Other states that are mainly white have similar murder rates.

The Brady people compile statistics and give out grades for "safety." I remember one year they gave an F to a state that had 0 gun murders that year, because it's gun laws were not restrictive enough. What sense does that make? It was the "safest" state on guns for the year.

States with a high percentage of black population have high murder rates.

You approach this entire idea with a very simple more guns= more murder and do your best to squeeze any information you can find into that thesis. But the answer is much more complicated.

Even nationwide in the US we have seen murder rates fall over the decades from a peak in the late 80s-early 90s to today, even as gun ownership has gone higher and higher and more states started permitting the carry of weapons until almost every state allows it today. So there is something more complicated at work than your simplistic approach to this subject.

Your history of what guns represent, who uses them for good vs bad is beyond reproach!

You probably missed a point in a previous post of mine: the USA is the only country on the planet, with maybe Russia being the only exception, that will never be under the threat of loosing an outside invasion, and we can overthrow our government if we choose to. We love our guns and we'll just keep adding to the pile dude.

I love the feed back with the pictures and all, but it's incorrect. The number of registered FFLs doesn't even come close to what your showing. Can you show me something other than a glorified editorial to support this claim? The answer is no. Read about FFL, requirements of FFL and do some math. What you're showing is a compiled number that includes manufacturing, collectors and importers COMBINED WITH gun stores. You are essentially playing the Meso version of MSM right now. It's laughable at best. Do better @Sampei

Btw, you ever subtract liberal run democratic city gun crime and murders from our countries total? I bet you did and decided to skip over it, huh?

: )

Double standards...

Why isn't this plastered all over the MSM as a hate crime? Wonder what MSM would say if a white person savagely beat a black toddler to death, after posting 3%, OK or PB rhetoric online?

I agree not to repeal. I would like to see the law honed in a bit more. There needs to be a definitive explanation of platform vs publisher that can't be skipped around, as well as definitive legal ramifications when the law is broken. I believe if you're being honest with yourself, no matter what party you vote for, you would agree that what happened this election cycle was insane and shouldn't happen again. Walter Cronkite, a Democrat, is turning in his grave, guarantee it.

Btw, I think GAB is using cloudflare for ddos. I keep coming across random stuff that says they host their own dns. I have no reply from anyone at GAB as of yet, just a bunch of online chatter that indicates this. Who knows tho? I did read that CF isn't going to be pushing GAB out anytime soon. GAB seems to do a good job at policing internally so if they keep that up I think it's a safe ride for them. It's a Christian operated site so that kinda sets the tone for what the bulk of people are into.

Civil discourse is the only way to understand, and understanding is the only way to a civil end. The extremes on each end need to be pushed off a cliff. However, sometimes extreme is what's needed.

Much like the use of cunt, you cunt. So are you the cock sucker? Brother? Son? Or did your dad start working his bussy later in life?

Btw, what defines redneck in your eyes? I spend a fair amount of time grilling, fishing, shooting, I've made some shine once or three time, wear pull on boots, chop wood maybe 3 times a month, I've only fucked my sister 5 times, can rip a car apart and duck tape it back together too. Does that make me a redneck? I also write code for custom software packages, touch panel designs, smartphone apps, audio dsp structure, can run FOH in any application outside of maybe a Gillette stadium setup, know networks pretty well, and some other shit I'm sure to forget... and all of this is for customers in schools, houses of worship, prisons, courts, police/fire stations and a few others that I'm sure to forget. Does this make me redneck, too?

Or is just the gratuitous use of the word "faggot"? I think retro is in, fag : )

Trump wanted to repeal 230 as soon as it didn't suit him. If it didn't exist and companies would be held liable for what their users post they would have booted his ass long before that. The entire internet would be a shit show with liability for 3rd party content.

A Private company has zero obligation to keep Trump on Twitter if they deem him an issue in any which way they want based on their TOS. First amendment or not. Trump can go yell outside a public building if he wants to discuss his opinions no problem.

The only people being cancelled are people deemed to be posting dangerous

Gab also uses Epik the king of far right and neo-nazi registrars for their DNS which a lot of right wing sites use, they do not "have their own dns".

Gab will have to do zero policing like Parler for someone like Cloudflare to dump them, then it is entirely warranted in my eyes. Again looking at the old Parler dumps a large portion of those people were unhinged and posting stuff that would get anyone a FBI/USSS knock.

Say it loud and proud then brother its 2021 we all support you.

Proof of this? If this is true, sweet. I feel even more comfortable with the thought that GAB won't come off the internet now. Thanks for the info! : )

230...
And again, for the last time, but maybe just enough times so you can finally understand what the law says...

Section 230 of the CDA is protection for platforms, not publishers. Restrictions on free speech when this isn't occurring makes you a publisher. See items below that are NOT covered by 1A... again...
Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, and

Have you done any reading into the media's collusion with democrats? Are we really talking about a private company making private company decisions when they are actively working with a specific branch of the government? Or are we talking about an extension of the government? Have you seen any of the leaked zoom calls? It's not a "maybe". It happened and is still happening. There is dumb, ignorant, negligent and lying. What category do you fall into when you say "private company"?

You will see legal changes to 230 and what punishments are able to be levied against platforms that play publisher. This will happen for 1 reason only... unlawful censorship against liberals. You will see conservatives continue to build their own networks, financial institutions, streaming services, etc. Liberals will not be allowed to participate and they will actively be thrown out of these "conservative eco systems". This will be the catalyst for 230 to come under the microscope to drive the change. We all know when a liberal can't get what they want they decide to do whatever they can to legislate (illegally in most cases as if recent) change, even if it means destroying everything wholesome in their path. You know, like having a father in the house. They effectively removed that from a majority of their households inside most major city limits (mainly because they can't seem to keep daddy sober and working). Down with the patriarchy!! Fathers are a construct of white supremacy!! Working out well for them, eh?

Please explain to me what Trump said that would have not covered by 1A? You made a point to call him out so you obviously could easily explain what his offending statements are.
Still waiting for any post on any social media site that you can use to prove your statement. Kinda like sampei with the "gun store" claim. You won't post, because you can't.

Thats what you come back with? Not even remotely close to fun. Wtf. Lame faggot you are. Fwiw, if you picture a Ben Affleck/Matt Damon bantering, maybe like a good will hunting candor, you'd be able to not get so offended when someone says shit like that. Don't be such a pussy. I get it, you can do 1000 push ups and squat an unloaded semi trailer... nobody wants to see a jacked up dude sitting in the corner whining about the foul words someone used. That basically makes you a Keebler elf.

@Demondosage see what I did there? I think Keebler elf is the new go to. I mean, it will be combined with fag tho. Have to keep it 90s.

@muscletrain the sad truth to all of this is it'll never end peacefully. It will end with another war inside the 48. The happy thing about it is everyone that is being leveraged as "tools of war" are waking up. People are realizing that it isn't a black and white thing. It's not a white collar blue collar thing. It's not an educated uneducated thing. It's a "keep us in power and enact a NWO" thing. The media, central banking system and associates are the enemy and they're playing us citizens like a fiddle.

There are ex BLM activists that are walking away from BLM in droves. They're communicating with rednecks like me and finding out that we have much more in common than they thought. Liberals are walking away from the democratic party faster than democrats can recruit. This is verifiable fact.

230 cements the ability to drive a narrative even if it's a blatant lie. A majority of the country sees it for what it is. Christians getting persecuted for religious beliefs... blacks following white domestic terrorists under the guise of BLM... msm not reporting on the domestic terror rates of minorities and over reporting the comparative few idiot whites that act like savages.

If I go on Facebook and post a SPLC statistic that shows blacks are joining hates groups at a 3x over whites I will get banned. If I post FBI stats (bureau of justice crime victimization) that show blacks being perpetrators in violent hates crimes against white people by a ratio of 10 to 1, I will get banned.

That's a private company deciding what they publish when those stats are removed and I get banned. That's not a platform. I get standing up for something when it's appropriate, but I don't understand digging your heals in when it's clearly flawed in a disastrous way.

230 has more holes in it than the gay peep show booths mindless visits. It needs to be amended, tweeked, whatever. It's clearly a boat taking on water.

My final statement would be who owns the media? Who owns the entities that stand to gain fiscally from all of this? Follow these two trails and you'll find the real enemy.

And then there is planned parenthood. Go Margaret Sanger!! Doing wonders for those liberal folks ain't they? If they were smart they'd skip a generation and stock their voter registration a bit.

But why do that when you have Hammer and sickle, I mean scorecard?
