First Homebrew sterility/filtraton question

It's amazing how for some people, it starts very small and then "if I just sell 1 or 2 vials, then mine will be free". 2yrs later, it's snowballed quite a bit

.....and another new pharma quality UGL is born advertising themselves as being in business for 20 years privately through independent gyms and now opening up to the wider global market ROFL

Haha! I've heard the 20yr stories before. I respect someone more when they say they have bn doing it for 1 year. It's still fun and done with pride at 1 year. After so long, it all ends up being a "job"

I wouldn't risk it

Getting caught manufacturing for profit is not the same as just using for personal uses. I think that homebrewing save enough money so that you don't have to sell few vials

Millipore bottle top filters are polystyrene housed, which is not compatible with benzyl alcohol. So if you’re filtering a lot of oil the polystyrene housing will be dissolved into your solution. There are threads here on meso about this. Melted plastic in your gear is not good. You’re gonna want to use glass, or polypropylene if you don’t want any reaction with your solvents and the housing of the filter. It will be very difficult to find pre-sterilized polypropylene housed filters that have the proper membrane filters you need, so you may have to resort to glass, or just try the millipore and use less solvents in hopes the housing won’t leach into your gear. The best option would be to buy a glass filtration system and paper filter membranes. PVDF.

As for transferring the finished product into sterile vials, it’s best to do under a Laminar Flow Hood, with proper clothing on (gloves, clean, long sleeved hazmat suit) which will help prevent any floaters or hair from entering vials. If you don’t have a flow hood and don’t want to invest in one or make one, I would use a bottle top dispenser. It will screw onto the gl45 cap and from there you can dispense into the vials. As long as you’re working in a clean environment and everything is sterile you’ll be fine
I use a standard PVDF with polystyrene housing filters and never had a problem, gone through 15+ different brews and never encountered any sign of contamination with melted plastic.
IMO 2% or so of BA isn't enough to melt it, at least during the filtering time.

It really pisses me off when I see UGLs talking all that shit about all the years of experience they've got behind them and how they brew up their products in lab conditions that would Pfizer would be proud of yadda yadda yadda but the only lab photos these set ups ever show is usually just a commercial dishwasher from the hotel or factory the brewer works in ROFL.

We all know how UGLs operate. Don't treat us like we're fuckin stupid

It is just crazy to me the amounts of people who claim to be pros, and get off by bashing someone who is seeking answers. I don't have all the knowledge in the world, but I've been at it for about 3 years ... and I've never changed my process, pretty much the same process you stated. Me and about 10 other parties have never had any better. We all love the T we use, and haven't once had an issue.

Some people (1tank1) just love to complicate things. Maybe it makes them feel smart? I don't know... but feel free to reach out and I'll share my limited knowledge.

Could someone share links to products or images of setups that utilize bottle top filtering and bottle top dispenser straight into vials? I've never seen such a setup outside of footage of pharma grade labs but I'd be really interested to see the homebrew answer to this problem!

Flow hood

You are compromising sterility. The optimal way to do that is to get a laminar flow hood. Does it matter? Maybe not since Ive heard people not even vialing their gear let alone sterilizing it but its a risk im not willing to take. Thats why I will always filter directly into presealed presterilized vials. The only way i would do anything different is if I was a lab but then i would get a flow hood haha
Where did you get your pre sterilized vials from? The vials from med-and-lab-supplies seem good but it's roughly $200 shipping fee, I could just bulk buy vials to offset the $200 shipping but if there are any alternatives I'm all ears. Don't want to cheap out on sterility so if that's the only good option I'll pay the fee

Where are you shipping to? Im in the usa and my vials come from a few states away. I use gpz. There are a lot of reputable sites that sell them

All the way in New Zealand mate. I've already found a reputable vendor based in AUS, it's $75 for shipping but rather that then $200. Buying in bulk so I'll only pay the shipping once

Well Im glad ya did. Its crazy how much access we have to things over here. Its probably because men are raised like cattle for war here haha. Trenned out psychopaths before we even sign recruitment papers

Thanks mate, I looked through your post history and it seems like you know your stuff when it comes to homebrewing, do you mind if I PM you with questions, going to start in a few weeks or so and I don't want to fuck up

I think they finally did a few weeks ago
if i ever meet you or the mod who kicked him off im kissing yall!!

i read a post where he was kicked off the UK boards and had to come to here. youd think he would have learned. dude seemed like he knew what he was talking about, i read a lot of his post, but he was an asshole
